Returning to the musical undergrowth first explored by Desert Dwellers and acclaimed mycologist Paul Stamets in summer 2020 in partnership with documentary film Fantastic Fungi, ‘One Giant Consciousness’ collects the sounds of six producers from the global electronica scene to echo the message of connection and renewal driving Stamets’ celebrated work as one of the pioneers of mycology research and advocacy in the 21st century. 

A shapeshifting journey through the deep grooves, soothing basslines, and mesmerizing atmospheres of psychedelic music, the collection ignites the doors of perception with an array of imaginative remixes from producers Hibernation, Nanosphere, Equanimous & Skysia, and Desert Trax artists Gumi and Tylepathy to evoke a sense of interconnection between nature, civilization, and the vast network of beings and visionaries lining the corridors of Earth’s history. 

Hitting on the emotive peaks and valleys engrained in Desert Dwellers’ iconic sound and accented with re-imaginings designed for a full spectrum of sensory environments, ‘One Giant Consciousness’ is a glimpse behind the veil that teases more collaborative work to come from Desert Dwellers, Paul Stamets, and Desert Trax’s mushrooming roster of creators from the modern visionary realm.

Earlier this year Desert Dwellers released their most diverse album in the duo's long career. The Great Mystery was the first full length collaborative project between the main founders Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, and featured a wide range of styles and aesthetics from downtempo and psychedelic dub to tribal trance to exotic house and techno flavors.

To celebrate the special release, Desert Dwellers have curated an ambitious two-part remix album full of contributions from some of the brightest luminaries and rising talents across the underground electronic music landscape. The Great Mystery Remixes Part 1 is slated for a September 21st release, and features sonic reinterpretations from Gaudi, Liquid Stranger, Hibernation, An-ten-nae, Kaminanda, AtYya, Tribone, Twin Shape, Land Switcher, Drumspyder, and Govinda. The second part will be released in late October with contributions from Emancipator, Whitebear, Sixis, Mystral, Supersillyus, Halfred, Master Minded, and many others. With artists from across the globe and musical genres, these carefully crafting renditions of Desert Dwellers' The Great Mystery are a potent combination of immersive soundscapes that pay a loving tribute to the original compositions.

Desert Trax is thrilled to bring fans a star-studded remix pack for ”Saraswati's Twerkaba,” the smash lead track from Desert Dwellers' Clear Path compilation, which was originally released in 2016 by Sofa Beats. The exotically innovative original from Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe sees the Desert Dwellers blending their signature downtemple dub sounds with global club flavors. It was inspiration enough to draw in a wide range of remixers amped to take on the task.

French guitarist and glitch sensation CloZee joined forces with LuSiD for an earthy, percussive take. Southern California bass legend David Starfire leaned more into the clubby side of the yoga twerk track. Mindex and Landswitcher both went dark and dangerous on their respective remixes, pulling heavily from the subsonic sampling and fearlessly pushing the track into the cavernous abyss. Patiently building from mild murmur to full on twisted roar, Nanosphere stretches Saraswati into a psy opus. Israeli sensation TRIBONE stripped the cut down all the way to its primal, midtempo stomp, and there is no doubt his take will turn dance floors loose with its relentless pulse.

The “Saraswati's Twerkaba” remix pack features 8 tracks with 40+ minutes of music and is available July 17th on all major sites worldwide.
