The songs are part of a long-distance collaboration between two Argentine producers living in different parts of the world - Buenos Aires (Lucas Page a.k.a GUAZÚ) and Seattle (Martín Selasco a.k.a Terror/Cactus). After connecting through social media and exchanging remixes, GUAZÚ and Terror/Cactus felt inspired to co-create music that merged both of their individual styles. Each working out of their personal home studios, they put together the songs by sharing tracks and ideas via email.

This month will see Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles debut his new live set, restricting himself to a small selection of analogue equipment such as the Moog Voyager, Prophet and tape delay, as he supports Luke Abbott on his UK tour.

In celebration, Rival Consoles offers his fans a free download of the title track 'Odyssey' – a reflection of his quest to create atmosphere and space from minimal arrangements. His new EP also features label friend Peter Broderick and is available now on Erased Tapes.

Behind The Sky is proud to present our 15th release which is a collaboration between Steve Moore (Zombi, Lovelock) and label head Bluetech.  This is the first release for our Ovoid Crafts sublabel, a showcase for forward thinking dance oriented releases and an opportunity to pay homage to retro sci-fi in all it’s cheesy glory.  Featuring sequential covers that reference 70s and 80s pulp novel covers in collaboration with different concept artists, Ovoid Crafts celebrates the more kinetic side of analog synth music which is the foundation of Behind The Sky’s oeuvre. 

Bluetech originally approached Steve Moore to contribute to an upcoming Behind The Sky compilation and discovered that the tracks were stylistically resonant with the album he was working on to launch Ovoid Crafts.  First exploring a remix trade, the two producers realized there was a narrative thread forming and extended the collaboration to some new originals and Liminal Migration came into being.    

Over the 7 tracks on Liminal Migration, a wide array of analog and modular synths and drum machines were used and abused including the Prophet 5 / 6, Moog Minotaur, Roland CR-78 and 808, MacBeth Elements, Arp 2600, Buchla and Moog modular systems, SCI Drumtracks, Korg Polysix.  Exploring the middle ground between synthwave, house, techno and electro, Moore + Bluetech create a warm and melodic take on retro inspired dance music featuring trademarks of both the producers' sounds.

With “Lemon Cello” Dunkelbunt composes a “Chanson Electronique”. Sonically situated somewhere between Vienna and Paris, rhythmically an homage to the dormant dance and club culture. The longing is audible. “Tout le monde est là, embrasse moi, on va on va fêter ça!” which means roughly: All the world is there, embrace me and that’s what we are celebrating! With these words the singer “Lisa Cantabile” evokes the current zeitgeist. DJ and producer Ulf Lindemann uses the original theme of “Ideocello” – a song from the cello-accordion duo “Marie Spaemann” and “Christian Bakonic” - as an harmonic substructure, from which he weaves a Dunkelbunt sound tapestry par excellence.

Kicking off 2021, Nathan Hall’s Sattva EP provides three moody slow techno offerings, with Kusht, Manski and jiony on remix duties.  Nathan Hall focuses on the darker side of music, with texture and atmosphere being the main subject matter of the EP. Born from short bursts of inspiration in the greyed out winters of the Pacific Northwest all original mixes are laced with pensive,  apocalyptic vibes. Expect synth pads kissed by the 80s, melancholic lead parts that break through and underline hypnotic arrangements and subtle organic percussions. Kusht’s remix lifts up these organic parts, supported by additional guitar lines to create his own signature version of These Days while Manski’s energetic version is a gritty banger with a touch of Leftfield House. Contributing a stripped-down remix jiony is rounding out the EP as a whole by adding psychedelic elements to keep up the spirit of Nathan Hall’s Sattva EP for a proper start into 2021.
