Currently in the thick of her most hectic summer of shows so far, Lens has been firing up dancefloors and blazing our senses with her mixes for a few years… Now time for the all-important level-up as she drops her debut EP – ‘Marufo’.

Having teased us with her first release earlier this year – ‘Love The Way’ with Lally on her Hospital Mixtape – Lens zooms out to reveal a much wider spice cabinet. Named after her favourite chicken spot in The Algarve, Portugal; ‘Marufo’ showcases the same full flavour range as she does as a DJ, each cut reflecting a different side to the young Brighton artist’s energy, sound palette and influences.

‘Feels Like’ takes the lead with a contemporary, sunny-side jungle vibe. Twisting up RnB elements amid her breezy breaks, it sets the tone for a full spectrum slew that follows; ‘Give Me A Reason’ is a cosmic late-night vibe-out, ‘Marufo’ brings the piri-piri piquancy frequencies with supreme old school jungle choppiness while ‘Gun Point’ fires shots into the future, the high calibre bassline charge once again tapping into a powerful foundation sound that belies Lens’s young tenure.

Each track like a fresh new course in a banquet of spicy new-gen D&B; this will fill you up for the summer AND leave you wanting more. Don’t worry, Lens is already cooking the next batch. But like all the best meals, we’ll just have to wait…

Continuing on from the success of their double-sided release a little while back, and highlighting what a great fit they are with revered D&B label V Recordings, is production outfit Paul T & Edward Oberon. 

Exclusively signed with the platform, they deliver their latest collaborative EP on 8th July, which features three contrasting tracks.  The pair says of the short collection: “It’s almost a textbook of how we remain musically versatile, within the context of a consistently soulful sound. No matter what we do, we still want to maintain our identity. The idea is to allow listeners to absorb each song of the single as a cohesive experience within itself.” 

‘Stay Forever’ lands first, bursting with lightly flitting piano tones, soul-drenched vocals and a generous helping of feel-good soul. ‘Taking Over Me’ is more aggressive, with a stuttering bass line and almost hypnotic hooks of melody, whilst ‘Fire’ is an immersive, raw cut that combines a thunderous, drum-led intro with dark yet smoothly riding vocals. 

The EP moves with urgency, feeling, and melodic intensity; themes this duo explore with unique creativity and stellar production quality.

After six years with seminal label Metalheadz, building his reputation through a steady output of Soulful Drum & Bass, Lenzman is about to embark on a new journey: launching his own label.

The North Quarter, named after the neighbourhood where he grew up, will be an outlet for both
his own productions as well as music by like minded individuals, who share a love and dedication for all things soulful. Naturally its first release is a Lenzman EP: ‘All For You’.

Taking everything that has shaped him musically and has meant something to him over the years, Lenzman is combining these ingredients to create something heartfelt. Music with imperfections,
born in heartache and pain, joy and laughter; a human celebration. Something far beyond container concepts like ‘Drum & Bass’. A classic attitude shaped in 21st century interpretations, a beautiful struggle if you will. Rather than offering a single track, The North Quarter is about reaching deeper, allowing artists a more varied pallet and more freedom. 

So then here is - the first release. Lenzman's All For You EP offers six tracks, two interludes and two bonus instrumentals. With influences from 90's Hip Hop and beyond. Real music for real people.

Real J is back, but not like you’ve heard him before. His new mini-album will be released on Waxtefacts, a label he runs with his close friends.

Real J approached "The Memory Screen" LP with a distinct frame of reference— distorted sonic memories of his early childhood. The result is a collection of atmospheric cuts with sprinkles of sunshine and expert transitions between heavy drums and haunting industrial flourishes.

The LP features four solo tracks, as well as collaborations with newcomer Kerstone and heavyweight groove maestro Glenn Astro. Each track is unique in terms of groove and mood, but the rich distorted textures and warmth remain throughout. This mini-album is a cohesive work from start to finish. If you only want a small taste before embarking, then A1 – Sweet Anxiety, and B1 – Transmission 7 (in collaboration with Glenn Astro) are the places to start.
Sweet Anxiety (A1) is driven by an 808-style kick-drum and distorted clap. The groove is courtesy of intricate, skippy hi-hat patterns, which constantly develop and grow throughout, while a growling bassline and a spaced-out synth line arrive to provide further depth. The variation means upon every listen there will be new details that emerge.

Transmission 7 (B1) starts steady, with a filtered pad and keys that slowly build throughout. More intricate and seemingly randomized hi-hats keep this one ticking along. Another distorted kick-drum fills out the bottom of the track. Layers of percussive elements provide incredible melody lines in the back-half of the track. This is not a typical Glenn Astro track, nor is it a typical Real J one, for that matter.

Real J’s production has clearly evolved since his last release on Wolf Music back in 2017. This is an extremely unique LP that he clearly poured his all into. We recommend you grab it before it sells out.
