 Blu Saphir

Blu Saphir Recordings was created in 2005 on the grounds of improving and expanding the variety of sounds that liquid funk has to offer. Jay Rome got in contact with Muffler, Kaleb and Contour back in 2003. He loved their music and decided to work with them on a new label to release proper music,” the label owner comments. “Twintone and I had completed a tune entitled “I Try” which had such good feedback that Muffler decided to do a remix. We had these tunes ready for the label, so we started Blu Saphir Recordings to release it.”

The label has gone on throughout to release two more singles, featuring the aforementioned Muffler remix of “I Try” and Bungle remix of “Synapse” on the latest release, number 003. Number four is on the rise with Aspect’s “Soul Lady” and Electrosoul System’s “Fun” and 005 is out now with Jebar & D.K. Foyer’s “Rhytual” and a remix by Soundtrax mastermind, Big Bud on the flip. The following 006 will be another masterpiece by the likes of Chino and Submorphics with the tunes "Jade Sunrise" and "Revisions".

There’s a lot in store for the future of the label. Featuring upcoming releases by Derrick & Tonika, Bassface Sascha,Ill Esha, The Ego and label owner Jay Rome himself, Blu Saphir will continue to push on a new sound of liquid funk to the masses.

Our competition winner Detect Theory is hailing from Vladivostok, Russia. He is a new name in the scene and ready to step up and conquer. Already having his first releases in 2019 on Liquid Dops and in 2020 on labels such as Influenza Recs and Soul Deep it is now time to anounce his lfirst output in 2021 on our imprint Blu Saphir as free release.

Easy to Love is an abysmal stepper – with rolling bass that comes up from the depths of the Earth like a volcano. Properly accented with gritty neuro-esque bass, it’s as if C3PO and R2D2 got a hold of this one and went into the lab. Cheeky and driving, you’ll be against the bins of bass or driving the dance straight into the floor. And of course, once you see LOVE in one place, you’ll see it everywhere. It really IS easy to love. That female vocal is out of this world!

Let Me Go rolls deep and hits on the feels right away. Spacey pads lead for articulate drums to drive the vibe in the intro before ethereal male vocals light up the backdrop similar to the previous. Gritty and deep, the opening passage makes its way to anthemic horns reminiscent of Dead Can Dance’s Dawn of the Iconoclast. Pads bring it back down momentarily with effective risers paving the second dance for this deep stepper.

Beautiful changes the scene, becoming more uplifting than the previous two. Beautiful leads open up like gates of Heaven. Pads, angelic voices, and chimes cue the entrance of a deep drop, body-warming sub lines and divine pads. Chorus-laced harmonic vocals sprinkle to connect the soul to the dance – after being apart from each other for so long. Emotionally driven, it’s exactly what we need.

Grooven’ is introduced by hihats that crescendo in this uplifting stepper. Keys and vocal pads make up the structure, while delicious amens make a sudden appearance for a welcome change. Minimal squelches are expected as the previous and appreciated throughout.

A. OVERDRIVE
A grimy way to start off the EP – melodic soundscapes enter while neuro-esque squelches take over the foreground. The drop comes through, rolling the bass through the subs. If you’re a fan of the Metalheadz sound, this one is yours. Drum fills keep the vibe fresh with the capability to play this one in its entirety.

B.  OMNIPOTENT
If you’re into 90s style rollers, this one is for you. Think of something like Kemal + Rob Data but with a deeper flare. Soul-shattering sub/reece bass climbs before the drop blows you apart. Amazing use of filters adds to the rollercoaster as deep female vocal calls permeate the backdrop. 

C. GOT IT
Anthemic pads open up with old school vocal stabs as the trademark neuro hits make their entrance. The sub-bass makes its presence felt before deep drums hit the floor. We’re getting “swampy” with this one as the pads re-emerge to cause a brief moment of euphoria. As the dance opens back up in live settings, don’t be surprised to see the dancefloor explode upon the drop. 

D. PIECES
In classic liquid style, “saxy” hooks lead the way while pads and classic neuro rolls out (think classic Moving Shadow on this one). Simply put, Calyx and Rob Playford might want to take a listen to this one. 

E. PAIN
Switching up the vibes, rhodes keys and pads introduce hard-hitting sub-bass and a more half-step feel, before the drum ‘n bass feel  we know comes blasting through. Classic liquid vibes on this one with the sweet female vocal. The half-time feel switches up throughout the piece as risers add depth. Perfect for the big floor or the lounge. Versatile and catchy. A tune for all audiences.

Syren Rivers x M:FX - Changes (Alibi Deep Remix) [Premiere]

2021 has been a big year for music, utilizing the energy of the great changes we've all been through for the last year and a half. Live shows are coming back, and the soul of the music is more fierce than ever before. Syren Rivers and M:FX released Changes b/w Glitch on BLUS 45 in February. Fast forward eight months and the soul comes back around with the remix flex by young, Austrian producer DubApe and the duo, Alibi from Brazil.

DubApe is a quickly rising young talent, supported by the likes of London Elektricity, Levela, and Don Diablo, with recent releases on LUX Music – Did You Forget Last Summer EP (also featuring GNRA and MC Longman.),. You might also know DubApe from his dubstep selections on compilations, including Dubstep Selections, Vol 03 on LW Recordings, various EPs on Encrypted Audio as well as the Storm EP on Boka Recs.

Alibi is Level 2 and DJ Chap who are signed exclusilvely on V Recordings. Producing alongside some of the heaviest hitters in drum 'n bass, including Skepticz, Sl8r, Riya, DRS, Serum, L-Side, and DJ Andy – while releasing success after success on the likes of V, Liquid V, Chronic, Hospital, AudioPorn, Sun & Bass Spearhead Records, C.I.A Records, and now on Blu Saphir – as well as releasing their debut album in 2018, Said & Done.

Coming strong right out of the gate, the boys from Brazil slam through with a gritty neuro build, before touching down with floor-rumbling subs and gritty synth bass. Spacey effects light up the backdrop, while Syren Rivers's heavenly voice is manipulated to perfection, as if in surround sound.

The tune comes to a halt momentarily. Don't be fooled. The gritty build slams through one more time – with Syren's voice once again echoing through. Deep attacks on the drums will send your feet into a planetary assault on the dance floor.

B. GLITCH (DUBAPE REMIX):
Uplifting drums, lush chords, keys, and deep bass accentuate this beautiful and singable number. Bringing bliss to the dance floor is what this tune is all about. The realness penetrating through Syren Rivers's words hits hard, while the build creeps and the bass drops just moments before a tease of the chorus. Well worth the wait though – with added feels once it fully lands. True mastery of musical craft through the young producer. The vocal trails off while absorbing the lush chords to the outro.

The tune starts with a dreamy pitched vocal patch which leads into shuffling beats until the bass drops . The “keep on anything” vocal rounds it up smoothly as the tune continues.
„Keep on Anything“ brings all of the elements of a quality dancefloor groove -- chill vibes, melodic synths and pads, a soulful female vocal, subtle neuro squelches, groove-driven drops and a beautiful arrangement.

The 45th release of Blu Saphir packs the same ammo as a loaded 45 revolver. Austrian producers M:FX, composed of Memory Effect and Martialistikz,  joined forces in 2019, and have thus far had three releases on High Pressure Recordings, Fresh Recordings and Deep Within Recordings.

Joining them, is acclaimed songwriter & vocalist Syren Rivers. Performing from a very young age, Syren learned his craft and was opening for the likes of Jodeci, Brand Nubian, and Redman. Later years saw him charting with Smoke City and KV5  in the United Kingdom, as well as two top-selling singles on iTunes – Signed & Sealed and So Dangerous. 

He has recorded for label giants, Sony, Warner, Chrysalis, and Universal, and more recently dropped singles with Da Lata and DJ Roska, and uses his talents to inspire and guide others to find their sound both in the recording studio and on stage.

Blu Saphir Recordings was created in 2005 on the grounds of improving and expanding the variety of sounds that liquid funk has to offer. Jay Rome got in contact with Muffler, Kaleb and Contour back in 2003. He loved their music and decided to work with them on a new label to release proper music,” the label owner comments. “Twintone and I had completed a tune entitled “I Try” which had such good feedback that Muffler decided to do a remix. We had these tunes ready for the label, so we started Blu Saphir Recordings to release it.”

The label has gone on throughout to release two more singles, featuring the aforementioned Muffler remix of “I Try” and Bungle remix of “Synapse” on the latest release, number 003. Number four is on the rise with Aspect’s “Soul Lady” and Electrosoul System’s “Fun” and 005 is out now with Jebar & D.K. Foyer’s “Rhytual” and a remix by Soundtrax mastermind, Big Bud on the flip. The following 006 will be another masterpiece by the likes of Chino and Submorphics with the tunes "Jade Sunrise" and "Revisions".

There’s a lot in store for the future of the label. Featuring upcoming releases by Derrick & Tonika, Bassface Sascha,Ill Esha, The Ego and label owner Jay Rome himself, Blu Saphir will continue to push on a new sound of liquid funk to the masses. 

DIGITAL BLUS

Following three years of mighty Blu Saphir tunes, we have decided to launch a sister label dedicated to releasing the highest quality drum & bass mp3s. The main focus of the new imprint is to cater to upcoming producers who are putting out quality tracks but haven’t secured a vinyl release yet. The label will have a similar sound to the Blu Saphir parent label, housing many of the styles you’ve already become familiar with, including liquid, atmospheric and deeper minimal drum & bass.

The first release features Birmingham newcomer Fluxem with a superb duo of liquid tracks, “Justify” and “Everything”. His tracks have been played by many of the heavy hitters of the melodic side of drum ‘n bass including Chrissy Chris (1xtra), Ash Attack, Dan Marshal, Specific, Submorphics and many more. Digital Blus will be available through Beatport, Itunes, Finetunes and Trackitdown.

BLU SAPHIR LIMITED

As evolution would have it, the force behind the Blu Saphir camp wasn't done – 2013 dawned a new era of techy, deep, dark and rolling drum 'n bass in the amalgamation of Blu Saphir LTD. Introducing a pair of thunderous rollers by Japan's Hayato, the imprint has gone on to release bangers by Monologue, DJ Chap, Roy Green & Protone,NME Click and many more. Up & coming releases by Inkognitiv and our exclusive label artist Sequences.

SYNC:SAPHIR

After numerous successful releases on both labels, label owners, Jay Rome of Blu Saphir and Syncopix of (you guessed it!) Syncopix Recordings have combined forced to create a new collaboration, Sync:Saphir.

“The goal behind Sync:Saphir is to push out some fresh minimal, deep and liquid drum and bass music by both talent new artists and well known producers,” Jay Rome of Blu Saphir goes on - “At first , I had the idea to release an EP with Syncopix, but then we decided to make a bigger wave with an LP and two sampler vinyls. The LP will be a double CD album. One will contain a back-to-back mix between Syncopix and myself alongside MC Shnek, (who is also a well known producer, releasing several tracks with Concept on C.I.A. and Soundtrax Recs). On the other CD we will present 13 tracks by both well known and fresh newcomer producers.”

Artists planned to appear include Electrosoul System, Muffler, Mr. Sizef, Enei, Syncopix, Henree, Joe Syntax, Paul B, Edward Oberon, Bionic1 and a few others. Both samplers are available now, while the double CD has a planned January 2010 launch date, followed by the digital release in February (which will contain a few bonus tracks).
