Following on from ‘Nine Matches’, her acclaimed debut of earlier this year, dark pop artist B. Miles announces the release of her sophomore single, ‘Shaking Hands’ on 13th July.

The L.A.-based singer has described her latest track as ‘a twisted version of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"’: a more complex take on the classic fable that’s perfectly in keeping with her atmospheric sound. Miles’ lyrical inspiration comes from the likes of Nick Cave and Tom Waits, and this is evident throughout. 

The track’s production certainly matches her songwriting too, opening with distorted bass, minimal percussion and stuttering guitar lines. As the sound on the chorus opens up, B. Miles artfully demonstrates the impact of her soulful vocal in its higher range – a talent that was already abundantly clear on ‘Nine Matches’ and prompted praise from Q Magazine.

The young artist first crafted her songwriting in Miami, attempting to forge an identity which captured ‘the essence of melancholy and yearning, while finding beauty in the sadness and pain that all of us carry inside’. 

Though also striving to remain true to a pop aesthetic, she is determined to succeed on her own terms, having spent years gigging mercilessly up and down L.A.’s Sunset Strip in order to refine her sound.

The recent charting of ‘Nine Matches’ on The Hype Machine saw this sound compared to the likes of London Grammar and Banks, inspiring a solid foundation of fans. And in gaining the support of production duo Noise Club, best known for their work with Wild Belle and the Spin Magazine-approved Quigley, B. Miles seems to have struck on a sound that promises much for the future.

With previous singles ‘Nine Matches’ and ‘Shaking Hands’ both charting high on the Hype Machine, dark pop artist B. Miles returns with her new single, ‘Salt’, on 24th August.

Brimming with bluesy riffs and percussive clicks, bathed in her signature soulful vocals, ‘Salt’ - which was co-written with Eric Nizgretsky of indie rock group Loose Buttons - is as lyrically evocative as it is melodically sublime.

The Los Angeles native says of her new track: “When we were recording "Salt" in New York City, I began getting really homesick for L.A., and as a result, I really wanted this song to remind me of home. On top of that, I had these second degree burns all over my arms and hands at the time. Lyrically, I just imagined salt being poured into the wounds.”

An artist whose talents have already been praised by the likes of Earmilk, Hilly Dilly and Q Magazine, and prompted comparisons to London Grammar and Banks, B. Miles first crafted her songwriting in Miami, aiming to capture ‘the essence of melancholy and yearning, while finding beauty in the sadness and pain that all of us carry inside’.

Partnered with the atmospheric electronics of production duo Noise Club, best known for their work with Wild Belle and the Spin Magazine-approved Quigley, this young act has now developed a powerful sound that honours a pop aesthetic whilst retaining a bold originality.  

‘Salt’ will feature alongside her previous two previous singles on her forthcoming EP ‘twenty fifteen’, which is set to hit all digital stores soon. With a growing host of admirers, B. Miles as a true ‘one to watch’ this year.
