Known to many in the SEM community as the ‘Running Physio’, Tom is a physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience who specialises in running injuries. He shares his knowledge with clinicians and runners around the world through his website Running-physio.com and very popular Running Repairs Course.

Dr. Dan Rhon (T: @danrhon) is an active researcher for the US Department of Defence, a consultant and assistant professor at both Duke (North Carolina) and Baylor (Texas) Universities. He attended a manual therapy clinical fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas, is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT), and an orthopaedic clinical specialist (OCS). He completed a postdoc research fellowship through the University of Utah and has a strong research interest in the effectiveness of clinical care pathways for musculoskeletal disease, both at primary and specialty care levels, and the intersection of these two.
He was recently part of the investigating team who published a study on the effects of corticosteroid vs physiotherapy for managing knee osteoarthritis, published by the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine.
In this discussion with associate editor Paul Blazey (T: @blazey85), he focuses on the findings of the study and the implications for the effective management of one of the most prevalent conditions seen in MSK clinics across the world.

Mary is a physiotherapist and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow. Mary was awarded her PhD in 2017, in which she examined multidimensional rehabilitation for the individual with chronic back pain. Mary’s research now focuses on changing clinicians’ behaviour, improving diagnostic labels of low back pain, and communicating healthcare messages in the media. In this 20-min podcast, Mary explores clinicians’ common misconceptions about low back pain and how we can better address psychosocial aspects of care.

Dr. Harvi Hart is a postdoctoral researcher at Western University in London, Ontario, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Hart’s research focuses on identifying risk factors for knee osteoarthritis, both non-traumatic and post-traumatic osteoarthritis. Through better understanding these risk factors, Dr. Hart aims to develop new treatment approaches for managing knee OA. In this episode, Dr. Erin Macri asks Dr. Hart about her most recent studies looking at cadence and its possible role in joint loading and knee osteoarthritis.

C’est la période des fêtes de fin d’année et avec elle, celle des longs dîners et rassemblements avec nos proches. Ces retrouvailles se font généralement sous le sceau de la convivialité. Mais pour certaines personnes, elles connotent au contraire la crainte de tout un faisceau de moments désagréables, de la dispute à table à la remarque raciste d’une cousine en passant par les piques d’un oncle aigri. Comment appréhender les interactions avec les autres lorsqu’on n’a pas les mêmes valeurs, lorsqu’on ne rentre pas dans les standards de la masse, lorsqu’on a fait des choix de vie incompris par nos proches ou lorsqu’on fait partie d’une minorité ?

Il est important d’avoir dans la vie des endroits où l’on peut être soi sans s’excuser ou se justifier, des espaces de bienveillance où l’on se sait en compagnie de personnes partageant le même vécu. Cet épisode parle de l’importance de pouvoir s’attabler avec ses pair.e.s, du pouvoir revigorant de ces moments, de non-mixité et de mixité choisie.

En première partie, Émilie Laystary s’entretient avec Delphine, qui a fondé les ateliers de dégustation de vins Œnologouine. En tant que passionnée de vins, Delphine propose par le biais de cette association des initiations au vin en mixité choisie (sans hommes cis), loin de l’habituel sexisme du milieu. Elle raconte à Émilie Laystary le bonheur de (et la nécessité de pouvoir) se retrouver entre lesbiennes pour faire autre chose que préparer des affiches politiques.

En deuxième partie d’émission, vous entendrez Linh et Aaliyah Express, membres du Collectif Asiatique Antiraciste. Iels reviennent sur les bienfaits de pouvoir se retrouver entre personnes asiatiquetées, pour partager les expériences et militer, mais aussi pour le plaisir rare de ne pas être « la seule personne non-blanche de la tablée ».
