Summer is just around the corner and the anticipation for live music, clubs and nightlife returning is through the roof. Luckily, Toolroom has got it all covered for you with their latest release from Simon Kidzoo & Elliot Fitch with ‘The Reason’. A funky disco house number that ticks all the right boxes, an instant classic and is for a sure a go-to dance floor filler.

Simon Kidzoo is an exciting new talent to keep your eye on and is fast becoming a Toolroom fave. He has a handful of releases under his belt on the label already via album exclusives as well as releases on Toolroom’s Trax Imprint, Saved, Kitball and more. His studio buddy on this occasion Elliot Fitch has been making a name for himself in the scene as well with some quality releases on Glasgow Underground and BeYourself.

‘The Reason’ is the latest collab from Simon Kidzoo & Elliot Fitch and the first record the pair have worked on together since ‘Psycho’ on Toolroom’s Ibiza 2019 compilation. This time around both Simon and Elliott go all in on this feel good, uplifting, disco house groover. Sampling a classic Keys record ‘Love Is The Reason’ to incredible effect and layering lush strings and chorused guitar loops, throwing them in with a stomping bass line, rhythmic percussion and a riding house beat. Simon Kidzoo & Elliot Fitch absolutely nail it on this release, love is ‘The Reason’ and this record is full of it.

House music veteran Junior Sanchez makes a long-awaited debut on Crosstown Rebels this May with the Divergent EP. The four-track release sees Junior team up with fellow world-renowned house producer Todd Terry on the lead record.

Live Forever leads the charge. It’s a symbolic collaboration that sees the legendary Todd Terry provide all vocals on the track: “I was in the studio with Todd in Ibiza. He heard it and liked it, so I was just joking and said sing something on this. He laid some ideas down... and boom: you got a track with Todd Terry on lead vocals.”

After Love comes next. It’s a truly euphoric offering, as upbeat piano rolls blend into shimmering kick-hat combos. Junior sums it up best: “This track is all about the feeling of the sun and the pure energy of happiness.”

My Mind Goes takes on a more rugged edge. Drawing “inspiration from an ‘80s new wave band”, reverberating vocals create a hypnotic feel throughout, whilst four-four drum patterns march on in the background.

Body Heat rounds off proceedings. “Inspired by the likes of New Order and Jimmy Sommerville”, thick bass drums accompany tough snare solos to create an “early ‘90s vibe” that sounds ripe for the late-night hours.

Junior Sanchez is a staple artist in the global electronic music scene. He is responsible for several iconic house records of the late ‘90s and early 2000s, most notably Back made with Roger Sanchez and DJ Sneak under their S-Men alias. The American veteran continues to showcase his talents both behind the decks and in the studio, having headlined Ultra Music festival in 2019 as well as recently launching the KULTUR label and event series alongside Canadian-mainstay Demuir.

Two of the UK’s most talked about producers will be releasing their maiden collaboration on Hot Creations this May, as James Solace and Jansons team up on the Portal EP. The three-tracker marks James’ return to the label, fresh from the sensational Mind Music last year, whilst Jansons makes his full release debut having remixed Ben Sterling’s Fantasee in 2019. 

The pair described how lockdown fuelled their creativity, as well as how their musical influences shaped the EP: “We had been planning to get in the studio together for a while and lockdown was the perfect opportunity to collaborate on a project. We’re both influenced by all kinds of house music and this EP really shows that.” 

Portal sets the pace, as punchy kick-hat combos converge on shimmering synth stabs throughout. It’s a club-ready cut, taking us deep into heads down hands up territory with rhythmic claps and writhing percussion. Ba Dah Be Dah continues the late-night feel, marrying echoing vocals into a tough, low-slung bassline whilst tribal drum patterns stomp in the background before 54 brings things to a feel good close. It’s a summer anthem through and through, packed to the brim with warming keys and plenty of funk inspired rhythm. 

Whether it’s releasing stripped back house under his Burnski alias or hard edged 2-step via his Instinct moniker, James Burnham AKA James Solace has become a UK-mainstay over the years. James Solace is the latest incarnation in Burnham’s story, one that has seen him release on several of the scene’s foremost labels including Hot Creations, Knee Deep In Sound, Last Night On Earth and many more besides. Jansons is swiftly cementing his standing as a leading talent in contemporary electronic music. A prolific producer, his back catalogue boasts releases on Circus, Knee Deep In Sound and Four Thirty Two to name just a few, whilst recent mixes for BBC Radio 1 have placed him as a firm favourite in the UK spotlight.
