Owls and foxes have an excellent breeding year so far this year. I hear Tawny Owls almost "everywhere" and this male and female were courting each other last night and paired at least twice (the high-pitched chirping).

Pairing Tawny Owls

All the sounds that are heard in this track were present in just this way in the original raw recording: there are no additions, subtractions, or effects. Quieter sounds were increased by +22 dB, louder sounds were reduced by -29 dB. A slight hint of saturation was added at the end to give a touch of warmth to harsher metallic sounds. Internal bridge sounds were recorded in stereo with a pair of Geofons (first generation). External bridge sounds (the final coda in this excerpt) were recorded with MKH 8040s in ORTF. (This is an excerpt from a longer track. The spectrogram in the track image highlights the parts of the longer recording that are included in this excerpt.)

Nth of Lillingstone Lovell, dawn (S502) 0330¬0430 - 2023_07_08

Dawn in bushland near the inland edge of the Kurangk/Coorong lagoon. On the far side of the lagoon, towering dunes half-draped with tough green bushes seclude and protect the lagoon from the ever-audible roaring ocean. Skimming above the ocean, a storm intermittently spears the waves with lightning, and rolls its thunder inland, towards the dawning bushland.

Wing sounds and calls from the local pair of Common Swifts flying by and entering their nest box. Also a few Swift bangers flying by and checking out the nest boxes. Other species in this recording is Lesser-spotted Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Blue tit and Great tit.

Common Swift - wingsounds and calls.

A newly arrived singing Willow warbler. Notable other bird species in this recording are also Blackbird, Wren, Wood pigeon, Tree pipit, Pied flycatcher and Common Crane.
