This is my second solo (post-Jitters) album, recorded in Vancouver, Canada, with the Odds, one of my all-time favourite bands backing me up (along with Simon Kendall on Hammond organ and various other interesting keyboards). The beloved Danny Michel also makes an appearance (on "Happy Go Lucy"), and there's the tribute to the listener who sticks it out and leasts to the end of the disc ("Last"). The album, in retrospect, is a bit of a mid-life crisis collection, with wry, sometimes humorous looks at what could have been ("Could've Been King"; "The Opportunist"; "Little Fish", and so on ). And where else will you find a song about Bobby "Boris" Pickett, the writer/singer of "The Monster Mash"?

Could've Been King

Written on a late Spring evening in May 2024 in Bala, Muskoka Lakes, ON. A close friend was experiencing his Father's declining health and it brought to mind a time when a friend pulled a chair up alongside me in our dressing room unprompted. She sat knitting quietly while I weeped, silently struggling through the end of my first marriage. I had never experienced peaceful abiding like that before...it brought me great comfort. Thus began the journey of this song.

This is for you, Peter Baylis.

This is maybe the first song on this subject to be so aggressive! Blues-rock base under a stream-of-consciousness ramble, a song so disjointed I had to be persuaded to pursue it by my old friend Ian McLauchlan. 

Beauty of the World
