This mix was originally made to celebrate the reissues of De La’s back-cat, and broadcast on BBC 6 Music a month ahead of the March 3rd release date.

Just over a week after this mix was broadcast, Dave, aka Trugoy the Dove, aka Plug Two, tragically passed away. A few weeks before release. 

The first half of this is the original 40-minute version of the broadcast mix.
A 27-minute edit was broadcast Saturday 4th Feb 2023, for the Block Party mix on The Huey Show.

The second half is a bonus 40-minute selection of 15 more faves - tracks that I feel needed time to breath; some that felt a bit dark for Saturday morning radio, and a few where Dave’s bars hit a little more poignantly now. A bittersweet time. 

Recorded Saturday 4th March 2023, the day after De La day.

Gang Starr Block Party Mix | BBC 6 Music

This is a mix I put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Massive Attack's third album 'Mezzanine', focusing mainly on tracks & breaks used on the Bristol group's first three albums.

This was broadcast on The Huey Show's Block Party on BBC 6 Music, Sat 22nd April 2023 (Record Store Day). This version contains the 27 minute mix that was aired, as well as an additional segment at the end that was chopped for time.

Another BBC 6 Music Block Party. Continuing on from my recent Gang Starr tribute, we now celebrate 30 years since the release of Guru’s classic debut solo album ‘Jazzmatazz Vol.1’.

This 27-min mix explores the symbiotic relationship between hip hop and jazz, old and new, taking in J Dilla, Madlib, Nujabes, Native Tongues, Digable Planets, Kassa Overall, Raw Poetic, Ty, Young Disciples, Loyle Carner, The Mouse Outfit, Robert Glasper, The Roots and Kendrick Lamar, as well as Guru’s compadres, DJ Premier & Branford Marsalis, plus a bunch more cool cats across 50+ tracks in the mix.

A 30-minute mixtape celebrating the works of RAKIM. This was put together for The Huey Show's 'Hip Hop Mixtape' Volume Two. The series was broadcast over the period of the Hip Hop 50 Summer celebrations, with each episode focusing on one element of the culture. Episode 2 concentrated on The MC, and I was asked to put together a mix of Huey's favourite MC; the god Rakim.

Omega and I go way, way back, co-hosting a college radio show in the late 90s, talking shit about wack emcees and going on wild digging missions in the 2000s when these tracks were recorded. He remains one of my best friends and partner in crime today. He also happens to be an incredible emcee, with a style that certain emcee(s) making a name for themselves in 2024 took a big bite from (including one who literally was in rooms in 1999 where Omega spitting...go figure). So here's some tracks - some previously released, several unreleased - that we did in the 2000s, starting with "Eye Problems" which we recorded in Philadelphia back in 2001.
