It's Got To Be You And Me

A minor hit by Crazy Elephant, an American band featuring Classic Flower Power Bubble Gum Pop. This tune from the summer of love in 1969 became a fun jam tune at HeartBeats rehearsals (which were rare) and at gigs. The Original HeartBeats' lineup never varied. Nick Zelinger, almost all lead vocals, rhythm guitar and keys, Mike McCarthy drums and vocals, Steve Singleton (RIP) lead guitar and vocals, and me on Bass and Vocals. I sing lead on this one with Nick on harmony vocals. Where were you in 1969? Recorded live with 2 Shure SM57 microphones into a stereo cassette recorder.

Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' - The HeartBeats

We're nearing completion of reviewing the 2002 True North album, with just a couple of tunes remaining. Another starry-eyed love song to entertain you this week. We have Jake on drums, Kim on keys, Dave on rhythm and lead guitar, Ben on rhythm guitar. I wrote this one, and that's me playing bass and hogging all of the vocals! What I'm Looking For - True North

Happy New Year! Music Monday 79 takes us to NYE '86, (wow 36 years ago!). This one features Mike McCarthy on lead vocal singing John Lennon's part, while Nick Zelinger and I took the Paul and George parts. Steve Singleton is on lead guitar playing the part that John and George doubled in the studio, when they played identical "sonic blue"-colored Fender Stratocasters on the track. This was always a band favorite. The revelers were out that evening, and you can hear their appreciation for the tune. Enjoy! Matt 8:20

Nowhere Man - The HeartBeats

As Nick used to say, these are "Words to live by" - but even mindless songs could be a lot of fun, and hey, this was a huge hit in 1964 for Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. Happy Music Monday 83! Sure to Fall (in Love with You) is a 1955 song written by Carl Perkins. The Beatles loved Carl and heard it in 1961 and went on to make several recordings of the tune for the BBC. I always loved the simple harmonies. Happy Music Monday 84: Come On Up by the Rascals was a 1966 hit that we covered in the '80s. Energetic and rocking, this was always a crowd pleaser. This one features all the usual suspects: Nick Zelinger on keys and harmony vocals, Steve Singleton on guitar, Mike McCarthy on drums, and that's me on lead vocal and bass. Come On Up - The HeartBeats

Happy Music Monday 85! "Lucille" is a 1957 rock and roll song originally recorded by American musician Little Richard. Released on Specialty Records in February 1957, the single reached number 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, 21 on the US pop chart, and number 10 on the UK chart. The HeartBeats loved Little Richard and this one was always a blast to play. Nick Zelinger sounds amazing on lead vocals and riffing on keys, As always Mike McCarthy on drums, Steve Singleton on Guitar, and me on bass. Recorded in a bar in the mid '80s with 2 microphones into a cassette recorder. Enjoy!  Proverbs 3: 5-6

Music Monday 87 - A couple of Monday's off entertaining grandsons and fighting off a ridiculously long virus of some kind... Back with this prolific Creedence Medley that was always great fun to play and always filled the dance floor. Featuring Nick Zelinger's great vocals, and all of the band members on various instruments. Kicks off with Proud Mary, into Have You Ever Seen The Rain, then Lodi, Bad Moon Rising, and finally Up Around The Bend. We always loved and would often substitute the lines, 'lolling on a liver,' and 'there's a bathroom on the right.' Another terrible bar recording, Enjoy! 1 Peter 3:21
