Mark Knight - Special Edition: BBC Radio1 'TEN' Hot Mix

An original from the later True North era, circa 2004. Karen Nicholson wrote the words about her childhood in Kansas and growing up with three sisters. That's her on lead vocal. Brad Henecke is rocking lead guitar on this one, Sean Eaman is on rhythm guitar and harmony vocal, Jake Shimon on drums and harmony vocal, and that's me on bass and harmony vocal. This one became a performance staple for True North and later Amplified Souls as a rocking original. Enjoy!

Not Everything's Flat In Kansas - True North

This is a not a full song or even fully produced -- it's just a musical idea I wanted to capture, so I recorded all the part from guitar using a Looping effect in some equipment I have, and then I later tried to build a drum track to go with it (what a mistake!  I had to stretch the drum track in several places to get it to better align with the playing).  There are plenty of little mistakes in the performance, so if I really wanted to turn this into something, I would re-record it (and not try to add a drum track after the fact!).

At its core, it's just a bunch of "add2 no3" chords which you could treat as major or minor when soloing over them, but then I decided to add another part that just basically assumes they are all major chords.  This was about the time my dog died (early July, 2022), but the positive feel of the music kind of made me think it could be about remembering all the good and joy that dog brought to my life, and thus the title.  Oh, and by the way, the picture is not even a real photo -- it was generated by an AI program (DALL-E), as were most of my pictures on tracks.

Worth Remembering

We're nearing completion of reviewing the 2002 True North album, with just a couple of tunes remaining. Another starry-eyed love song to entertain you this week. We have Jake on drums, Kim on keys, Dave on rhythm and lead guitar, Ben on rhythm guitar. I wrote this one, and that's me playing bass and hogging all of the vocals!
