Lessons (4th Originals Mixtape)

Hello again, Happy New Year to everyone out there.

After another hectic year, another big project for me personally awaited as 2015 began. Somethng I know many of you anticipate every single year - the Global DJ Broadcast Classics Showcase. 

I can't believe that this would be the tenth edition.

When I was growing up and getting lost in music on the radio, some of my fondest memories involved listening to all the classic songs that would be played, particularly on New Year's Day. So the idea of doing a classics showcase once a year on GDJB was born out of those feelings.

It's always one of the most mentally challenging and emotionally demanding sets to put together, because somehow you want to create a journey that will be magical for everyone to listen to - regardless of how long you have been listening to all things electronica. For many of you, there will be a whole host of iconic tracks you will be hearing for the first time, and maybe even unearthed gems for the more seasoned folk.

So hopefully there is a nice spread of years represented throughout, and this is something that will resonate with you for some time to come. As a new year dawns, we can take a moment to celebrate the tunes and moments that define our era.

Hope you have a wonderful 2015, and hope even more that we can create some magical memories together.

Traxsource LIVE! #152 2017 Rewind with Brian Tappert

It's a mix of music for people who like to listen to good repetitive dance beats with the odd piano hook or vocal flourish that I made for my good friend Holly Lester's radio show on Limbo Radio. Some of the music is from New York some of it is from Chicago some is from Detroit and some is even from Italy, I forgot what records I made it with because I put them all back on the shelves when I finished playing them but if you ask nicely I will find them and let you know what they are, hopefully soon I can make you dance to these records in a nightclub and we can all be happy together, one love, house is a feeling, jack your body.

Limbo Radio Mix

Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky first started playing together as Apollonia in 2012. The French trio has become one of house music’s strongest alliances since then, bringing an inimitable groove in each of their extended back-to-back sessions.

In their DJ sets the trio mix some of the best house records out today with forgotten bombs from the past – much like the material that makes up their coveted Apollonia label. They’ll usually cut between these selections with pacey and unpredictable transitions, meaning you’re always kept on your toes whenever they appear together.

We’ve known this for some time now. The trio’s regular Farringdon appearances have become one of our calendar’s highlights over the years, and we always know to expect a thrilling night of twists and turns when they join us. Ahead of their return on 14th April, we’ve unlocked a two-hour recording of their most recent appearance with us, where they played with the same fluidity that’s helped characterise their sound.

Giraffi Dog is a unique breed that combines spiritual music with ecstatic energies. Making a first appearance on Doom Chakra Tapes it got introduced to a wider audience with an EP on Aiwo in 2017. This year the Dog will return to the garden and we can hardly wait for it.

JVXTA popped up on our radar this year with some tasty morcels on Clipp.Art, Homage and his own imprint Hardmatter. Now he's joining up with the Lobster Theremin guys with a beaut of an EP on their Distant Hawaii sub-label. We're showcasing the brilliant SS Anne that's fused two firm favourite samples into a late night burner thats as elegant as it is bumping. As soon as we heard this we knew it would had to get it up on SB channels ASAP!

Matthieu Faubourg @matt-schro, the upcoming French producer most known for his tune Please Stay makes his Neovinyl debut with arguably his strongest material to date. Widely considered a newcomer to follow, his name has circulated through deep house circles where he is praised for his unique approach to the sub-genre. In his signature style, Matthieu churns out three weighty cuts heavily influenced by classic deep house, jazz, and garage.

Bethnal Green kicks things off in club mode with thick sub bass chugging beneath expansive pads and jacking percussion. Both Parallel Lines and Less are also aimed at the club, but have a more relaxed feel, perfect as kindling for a dance floor fire, or for reducing one to embers. Closing things out is label co-founder @Baldo, who takes an airy, almost Balearic approach to Parallel Lines with his outstanding remix.

In it’s entirety, Matthieu’s EP is a highly functional package of deep club weapons that are sure to make an impact on global dance floors.

This week’s International Tribe mix comes from Bobby Analog.

Bobby Analog is the Belfast based DJ & founder of house label Body Fusion. Over the last few year’s he has embarked on something of a creative re-direction; moving away from the disco and soul samples that have been enjoyed on previous Body Fusion records in favour of something deeper – influenced with the sound of mid 80’s NYC ballroom culture, subterranean house and ambient italo.

With releases on his own label Body Fusion, as well as on Extended Play records, his legendary AVA boiler room highlighted his eclectic selections and he has continued to play across the globe. He steps up with a truly varied array of smooth and deep tunes for his International Tribe mix.
