Sobolik makes their return to All Centre with It’s a Wrap. Following up their second self-released Edits EP and a collaboration with Ma Sha on Kindergarten, the New York-based artist continues a busy 2024 with four more expertly designed maximalist club tracks.

The Butt of Your Joke kicks off the record in a propulsive groove, with a spaced-out descending melody expanding and contracting amongst syncopated percussion. Energy levels rise further with a deep warping bassline, before taking a final left turn with the introduction of tense, abstract pads.

Forever Chemicals opens with shape-shifting vocals repeating over dynamic percussion, gradually ramping up the tension. The track then enters a moment of calm for an ecstatic melody to enter the mix, which bounces around the four-to-the-floor groove held down by heavy kicks, which shift throughout the track to keep dancers on their toes.

Pleating (Hemmed Mix) moves the EP into a darker mood, with subsonic-frequency kick drums and washes of alien sound design building a tense atmosphere. A subdued arpeggio bubbles underneath the surface as the track propels through murky territory.

Final track Closure Step brings down to the tempo into a broken-up ama style groove. Microtonal synths stutter and a hypnotic bassline loops and spirals around the track, before lush, wistful chords creep into the latter stages of the track, closing out on an emotive note.
