Songs from a Screaming Void - 01

a project created in december 2020 found from the archive 

Procedure:
A MIDI sequence was created with Elektron Octatrack,
which drives a piano track in Ableton.
The sequence was then broken down into four melodic lines.
The first line were transposed by +7 semintones
the second by +11 semitones
the third -13 semitones
the fourth line remains in the same pitch
then the harmony was extracted from each melodic line.
For each track, the ghost plays its part and sings as it pleases.
Next, for the sake of musicality, each ghost decides which notes to play and which to omit from its part.
During the performance the Time increase and the ensemble takes place
second take with the "singing ghost" track add

Saitō Sanki (1900 – 1962) was a dentist who discovered his passion for haiku poetry in his mid-thirties, when his colleagues at the hospital in Soto Kanda convinced him to write a haiku for a collection. Later, he became one of the most important exponents of wartime haiku: he was imprisoned in 1940 during the government’s World War II persecution of controversial artists, and was officially forbidden to write until the end of the war.

from the forests of Karlskoga, in the midwest of Sweden, comes producer,
musician, and songwriter Johan Lundgren.
with half a lifetime of producing and songwriting behind him, solo debut
was never a topic of discussion, until he swapped the long winters of
Stockholm for a few years in California, where Tungorna came to life.

he describes the change of environment and the limited equipment as a way
to challenge himself. “i only had my laptop, a cheap microphone and a
small keyboard with me, but nowadays, that’s all you need.”
sharing this mindset are his fellow collaborators of the audiovisual
project iamamiwhoami, for which Lundgren has been a frequent live
musician for many years - Johan Lundgren describes the experience as “a
creative push”.

this is also how Tungorna was introduced to their label, To whom it may
concern. “eith their label they have formed an inspiring environment,
with their music and the world surrounding it, keeping total control, not
only of the creative process but also the production, without some guy in
a suit intervening.”

from the likes of artists and producers such as Four Tet and Caribou,
Tungorna creates music with a lo-fi and naïve quality that still occupies
depth through its multi layered musicality.
Lundgren describes Tungorna’s sound as “a collage of interesting bits and
pieces that don’t necessarily have to be ‘good’. the beauty is in the
flaws and is kept together with melodies and a moderately danceable
beat.”

Tungorna debuts on TWIMC and Kobalt Music, with the dark and playful
single “NOSA”, on November 11.
the track also comes with a video by WAVE, the director collective
composed by Jonna Lee & John Strandh, who describe it as a “beautiful but
dark memory caught on camera”.
