We are excited to present you the brand new single “Popping the Clutch” from the amazing French duo Prosper & Stabfinger. 

The song is a heavy weighted nu funk and nu disco boogie banger with hot hip hop - funk vocals and lyrics performed from UK based MC artist Jonie D. The lyrics are made for a ride in a fast car (with a booming system) under the sunshine! A journey from a card table to the nightclub. Popping The Clutch ends with an uplifting thought “keep your eyes on the sparrow”. 

Timewarp inc is joining forces with his remix version and bringing the dub over the funk. The result is a heavy breakbeat constructed with dub wise vibes. 

The instrumental versions from both original and remix appear on the single release.

Back In 2018 I was DJ’ing in Liverpool as part of the annual ‘Sound City’ festival. After my set, a group of enthusiastic people approached me and congratulated me and wondered if I’d heard of Cavendish Music, as that’s who they work for. Being a bit of a record digger, I of course knew of the amazing Cavendish Series, from the late 60’s to the early 70’s, as well as the Boosey & Hawkes albums.
One of the cavendish crew, passed me his card and said to get in touch if I was ever around the Kings Cross region of London, to have a hunt into their vaults and see if anything came to fruition
So that’s what I did!
Ever since, my recent projects (Forty Five LP, 2020 Donuts LP & Figure Of Speech LP) have all contained Cavendish/Boosey samples, and the Cavendish team have been a joy to work with.
Consequently, I wanted to create a tribute by making a full record of material using the incredible vintage sound sources from their library of music, whilst putting my Boca 45 spin onto them from my studio in Boogie Down Bristol.
I hope that you enjoy the sonic results here.

"Das Lied kommt mir so bekannt vor!" Dieses Gefühl kennt jeder. Ein häufiger Grund: Samples. Kleine Fragmente oder Loops eines musikalischen Werkes werden in einen anderen Kontext gebracht, so dass sie zu etwas Neuem verschmelzen. Das vertraute Gefühl bleibt. In allen möglichen Genres genutzt, hat sich das Samplen unter anderem in der Hip Hop Szene durchgesetzt. Bereits Mitte der Siebziger Jahre begannen die ersten mit dem rythmischen Sprechgesang zu experimentieren. 

Hip Hop war seitdem immer in der Musikgeschichte präsent und ist aus der subkulturellen Entwicklung der Musikwelt nicht mehr wegzudenken. Viele werden sich an Rapper´s Delight der Sugarhill Gang erinnern, die sich zum Beispiel an dem Song "Good Times" von Chic bedienten, um diesen Klassiker so eingängig zu machen.

Seit nun schon mehr als 25 Jahren befasst sich kein geringerer als DJ Coma von dem aus Aachen stammenden, legendären Mioki DJ Team leidenschaftlich mit dieser Bewegung und allem was dazu gehört.
In sein bisher aufwendigstes Projekt hat der Mann vom Fach viel Recherche, Liebe, Schweiß und Herzblut gesteckt. In einem 60 minütigen Mixtape begleitet er den Hörer in die Hintergründe des Hip Hop. 
Truetape heißt das Neugeborene und ist auch für die Hip-Hop-Muffel unter den Musikliebhabern äußerst hörenswert. Neben ruhigen souligen Parts führt das Truetape seinen Hörer durch einen üppigen Garten aus klassischem Funk, jazzigen Bluenotes, bassigen Breaks & Beats bis hin zu brasilianisch klingenden Volksliedern.

The A side ‘Soul On Top’, is produced by Boca 45 and features New Zealander Louis Baker on vocals. Louis, based in Wellington, N.Z. has an emotive vocal tone that produces shades of Motown-era soul, which earned him a place at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in New York, when he was chosen out of 4000 applicants to take one of only 60 places. Currently gaining plaudits internationally for his sublime songwriting that has shades of J Dilla to Sly Stone, he has been touring in Europe as well as many shows and festivals down under. Boca 45 is a Bristolian legend who’s earned a mighty rep for his work with Andy Smith as Dynamo Productions, with Ben Salisbury as Dolman, with Gee Ealey as Malachai alongside his many solo records on various labels. Very much 2 talented artists that are successful in their own right who have found some common ground...

Louis was on tour in Europe in the spring of 2015 and played a show at The Sugar Factory in Amsterdam, whilst Boca was the guest DJ at the Wicked Jazz club night the same night. They end up meeting and get on brilliantly. The following day they reconvene on Red Light Radio, and having both been blown away with each others sets they decide that they must work together. A meeting of minds from different parts of the globe (UK-NZ) comes together in Amsterdam (that can't happen very often). Fast forward a couple of months and they start plotting Soul On Top - Scott makes the music / beats whilst Louis plays guitar, sings & plays bass. The result being an immediate slice of hip hop soul which will work as well on the dance floor as it will on the radio.

The B side features ‘Diegos Theme’, lifted from Boca's 2nd LP Vertigo Sounds which featured amongst other guest vocalists Kelvin Swaby from The Heavy.  D.T is a sampledelic slice of b-boy heaven - Boca say's that it's inspired by his football hero Diego Maradona - ‘I wanted to make a track which would suit his personality as well as being a soundtrack to his many breathtaking goals he scored throughout his career’. A classic slice of Boca and pressed on 45 for the very first time, it’s a lot more than just a lowly B side spin!

Nature Of the Beat 2010 (Solid Steel Radio Show)

Boca 45 is known as somewhat of a Bristol (UK) institution from his early days in the mid 90s selling Golden Era Hip Hop from behind the counter of the seminal Purple Penguin record shop rapidly becoming one of Bristol’s most in demand DJs for a quick fire mix of bone-cracking breaks, hip hop, coruscating funk, rock and heavy soul these are all of the musical ingredients which make up Forty Five.
Once Scott Boca got to grips with the studio from the early 00’s he’s had continuous releases, remixes, DJ mixes on labels such as Island/Universal, Domino Recordings, Ninja Tunes, Grand Central, Illicit, Jalapeno, Unique & more under a slew of aliases.
At the advent of Scott Boca’s 45th year on planet Earth he decided to hone everything he’s learnt and loved into one killer solo record.
When making Forty Five, Boca pulled together friends, family and footie mates to make a record that would deserving stand as his musical autobiography - that cast list included his Bryan Munich teammates (Geoff Barrow and Billy Fuller from Beak, Ben Salisbury), Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno, NYC MC Emskee, New Zealander soul singer Louis Baker and Malachai bandmate Gee.
Forty Five is Scott Bocas life story in twelve cuts; the soundtrack to an immersion in sound, it’s an honest personal statement. His Twin teenage Sons designed the Forty Five Logo, Boca wrote the comprehensive sleeve notes personally breaking down the back ground of each track as well as making the inner collage using images from all of the collaborators on the LP.
The first people to hear the record outside of a close circle of friends was titanic U.S. record label Mass Appeal (home to DJ Shadow, Nas, Run the Jewels and the J Dilla catalogue).
They immediately offered and signed the record in a worldwide deal.
Previously Scott Boca provided a track for the Banksy Movie “Exit Through The Gift Shop” & in 2015 the elusive artist personally requested Boca to DJ with his 45s at the opening night at his Dismal Land Show.
2018 saw Boca release Bocas Club Donuts - a series of five highly covetable, DJ Friendly iron banger 7’’ singles which each sold out within a matter of hours to a rabid set of collectors via only announcements via his own social media channels.
Now on to 2019 Boca is ready to hit the clubs and world wide festivals armed with a heaving box of Vinyl Wax to spread the good word of Forty Five to whip crowds into a frenzy with his crazy collection of hot 7'' donut Forty Fives.
