Tonight’s Somersault mix is brought to us by Leesy! Originally from Singapore, Leesy moved to New York in 2013 to chase her dreams to attend Parsons, The New School for Design. Starting with taking in all that NYC had to offer, she soaked in the endless opportunities, the chance to meet people from all over the world with all kinds of perspectives. In 2017, she picked up a DDJ and started mixing her favorite songs together and playing them back to her friends. Almost like the act of burning a CD mixtape of different songs, it offered her an outlet to connect with herself and the people around her. “It was a type of catharsis, especially during this difficult time for everybody. If I could make someone’s day, just by having them dance to an hour of amazing music stitched together, that’s makes me incredibly proud and happy.” DJ Leesy has raised over $20K for #BlackLivesMatter and the Equal Justice Initiative through her livestreams. She has also performed at NOTO and JWL in Philadelphia, and for some local event venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
