Beginning in the south, the Bruce Trail hugs the ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquoia as it follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Path, over its lengthy journey, winds its way through a landscape of natural beauty as it moves up to central Ontario. 
As the Trail leads further into the depths of the woodland and Ravine, sunlight falls through layers of evergreen branches stamping intricate patterns on the forest floor. Continuing north, the Trail passes an array of plants and wildlife native to the historic forest. Vivid colours saturate the forest canopy, complimented by the sounds of the cascading waterfall echoing through the Ravine. In the distance a carpet of gently waving fern cover the rolling hills dotted with slow-growing centuries-old coniferous trees that reach towards the sun.
At the home stretch of the escarpment you will be offered stunning views of the Peninsula, with the calm blue water of the western end of Lake Ontario reaching out to the lush greens of the temperate rainforest. This is the journey of the Bruce Trail.

Interplanetary Criminal - Mesmerize

Hiding slightly out of plain sight, Australian producer Mood J has been secretly crafting lush house jams for the last half decade bubbling just under the visible surface.

With the artist and Asquith having briefly touched base at the beginning of the label's journey, it took only a chance encounter in a Ballarat bungalow in 2016 to reignite the flames of the artist-label relationship. Jimmy surprisingly bumping into Jon (Mood J), as he was Daze's housemate in Aus, whilst the Lobster crew were on tour there.

Mood J's hard drive was stashed with archive of warm, sizzling, analogue studio tracks cooked to the nines, and so here we are just over 14 months later with the full epic debut in hand.

The edits-y anthem Turn Your Love Around kicks things off in huge fashion with a stomping & heaving flip of a proper classic. Arrangement never felt so tight and this one rides heftily into the night. NY Vibration follows, smoothing things out with a lolloping New York house twist layered with rippling, resonant deep haus pads, searing top lines and an easy spoken word. 

The flip kicks off with The Arps, a skittering hat skater with an ascending, descending and cascading arp line that hisses with sea spray and hot evenings in central Victoria. 

Providing the last hurrah of the night we have Moonlight Drive. Summer heartbreak captured in a single moment and a slap bass. A melancholy Juno riding over a hint of twinkling optimism, saying that it's not over yet.

BRS' Bouncing was originally released in 2000 on Imperial Dub a firm favourite with WOLF Music for many years, it now has the opportunity to be introduced to a new generation of record buyers. 

Paradiso Rhythm self released Greetings & Salutations digitally early last year. A killer record in every way that deserves a vinyl release. 

On the flip Ishmael & Medlar supply a collab track recorded last year at the Red Bull studios. Rounding off the EP is an updated version of KRL's I Wanna Be With You that was originally released on WOLFEP003.

The fourth EP in Whiskey Disco spinoff Lovedancing's catalogue comes courtesy of Israeli duo Rabo & Snob - @raboandsnob (themselves regular contributors to WD). R&S, which consists of DJ/Producers Obas Nenor and Eyal Rob, is best known for their sneaky re-edits of the global disco variety, often leaning heavily on Middle Eastern sample material. The Yawumna EP shifts the sonic focus to West Africa, building on a trip taken to Ghana and seamlessly integrating collaborations from local musicians.

The title track, which sits on the first groove of the record (and was the target of many an ID request during Obas Nenor's Boiler Room set last year) is a haunting mid-tempo groover featuring Soma. "Yawumna" mixes together a pulsating dark bassline with exquisite string (kora, to be exact) and vocal work.

For our premiere today, we have French producer Art of Tones remix (@llorca) of the track. An increase in tempo and added afrobeat flair repurpose the cut for slightly brighter and funkier moods. It's a slightly looser take, integrating an analog bassline, tasty rhythm guitar (wah-wah included) and playful, sustained organ riffs for added fun.

On the B-side "Ifa" (featuring the vocalist Azizaa) is a slice of mean, afro-house badness, with Jacques Renault contributing a slicked out dub version. All of this makes for a nice package of two great originals and two purposeful flips from established vets in the house game. The Yawumna EP hits record stores on May 12th for those needing to scratch their afro house itch.

London label @axeonwax-records has achieved quite a fair bit since its 2014 inception. Between itself and its ‘grittier’ sub-label Axe Traxx, they’ve clocked in a combined 11 releases consisting of works by proper staples in the scene — Chaos In The CBD, Glenn Underground, and Mall Grab, just to touch on a few. Now, they’re back with yet another sub-label — a hip, trendy and super fun younger sibling of the Axe imprints, with PNP 001 as their first offering.

PNP 001 compiles together re-edits of classic tunes, a task London local @DeejayAstral (fka Palace) is certainly not unfamiliar with. His B1 ‘Say Yes’ opens with a muffled, mumbling take of the spoken-word intro to Floetry’s 2003 hit single. Astral's play with filters lends the up-pitched neo-soul vocals an even more seductive flair. The rework’s feature of sensual jazzy keys and hints of a trip-hop groove may highlight the RnB original’s dreamy bedroom vibes, but the addition of popping kicks and crunchy raw percussion really repurposes the track into a serious dance-floor heater, all without any overstatement. Deejay Astral sure knows how to please.

Sporting a touch of lo-fi, a healthy dose of disco and a whole lotta oomph, the rest of the tracks do not disappoint. It’s no wonder PNP 001 already has the likes of DJ Seinfeld, Baltra and Banoffee Pies on board with early support. Definitely keep your eyes peeled for the release!

PREMIERE : Deejay Astral - Say Yes

Frits Wentink's next release on his own Bobby Donny label finds him editing some tracks he has been playing on his radio show for a while. They are originally by Vertiqua, a German lo-fi hip hop producer that remains unknown.
The vinyl only record is limited to 500 copies.
All four of these tracks have been edited to make them more suited to the dance floor. The a side comes as an edit that is all about woozy chords and loose, bumpy drums with a rapped vocal stitched deep into the arrangement. It's warm and intake for cosy dance floors.The B1 has organic boom bap drums and kicks, more tape delayed chords and a nice analogue feel all finished with a wordless but beautifully soul-infused vocal.
Last of all, the louche drums of on B2 are coated in vinyl crackle and laced up with more intoxicating and imperfect chords.
This is a perfectly aged combination of hip hop and house that will get any floor bouncing. Limited 12 Inch hand numbered vinyl.
