This is a very special EP. As many might know Toy Tonics started as a sublabel of now sleeping German indie dance label Gomma records. Gomma, along with DFA, Output Records and a few other was known for a very ecclectic, different approach in dance music. On this LOST GOMMA MIXES EP you'll find 4 now lost tracks that came out about 10 - 20 years ago on Gomma, but fit very well in today’s zeitgeist again. Pete Herbert, In Flagranti and Jaques Lu Cont are featured. Who knows about modern disco - knows these producers. And there is a very special name here too: Nicky Siano. The now legendary New York DJ used to be resident at Studio 54 and other legendary NYC venues of the 1970ies and 1980ies. One of his remix works was for the Gomma records band The KDMS.

This time involving other seminal producers protagonists of that all-Italian golden age: from Cirillo, Kamasutra (Alex Neri and Marco Baroni), Savino Martinez & Claudio Coccoluto, Ivan Iacobucci, Riviera Traxx (Flavio Vecchi and Ricky Montanari), Tc 1992 (Roberto Intrallazzi and Marco Fratty, here in the remix version of the great Marco Trani) to Tony Carrasco (Exotica), Mauro Ferrucci and Christian Hornbostel (Nikita Warren), Pastaboys (Rame, Uovo & Dino Angioletti), Leo Rosi, Gianni Bini, Jonathan Tedesco (Beat Foundation), Fidelfatti, T.R.A., Oneiric & Vortex, Leo Young, Steve Mantovani, Daniele Mad & Dan E Mc, Corrado Rizza, Harley & Muscle. Additionally passing through unreleased songs by Joe Montana, Edward's World (Edoardo Milani), E.v.o.e. Two years after his first release on our label we are very glad to have “Love Will Say No” from northern Italy back with another stellar mix of styles mini album/ extended EP! From Dark Disco to Cut up House and soulful Groove, you can find it all in this beautiful package of songs. Always looking to the farther left field side of dance music and never forgetting the strength of the dance floor sound, something that really touches us and makes us proud to release, certainly what Dirt Crew always stood for in our 20 years of existence. A true unique style!

This time we let the artist himself put some words on the tracks as it really describes his sound in the best possible way;
Carry the Fire - One of my musical myths since I was a kid is for sure the birth of Hip Hop and those early days.

Kool Herc and the merry-go-round, those breaks, those grooves, the essence of dancing stripped to the bone. Even today, with all that technology available, that must be the seed of what we’re doing. So this track is my tribute to that. And happens to be released exactly 50 years after the birth of Hip Hop. The title is a reference from “The Road” by Cormack McCarthy, and also if I chose that when he was still alive, in the end happened to be a tribute also to him.

Time Is the Perfect Lover - Yes it is. Damn power of memories to distort the reality of our past, tryin’ to trick us.

You’ll Know When - A French touch track like many I wrote in more than 20 years, but full of the bittersweet eyes of a 40 years old man.
When you’re 20, you hope for things to happen. When you’re 40, you hope to be able to recognise when things happen.

Gonna Summer - First track I wrote as Love Will Say No, almost 10 years ago. Never satisfied with the first result, I wanted to give new life to it. The Roulé seed is still there, the mellon collie rhodes chords too, but now the groove is working for a late sunset as I always hoped.

Red Window - Summer. Late night. Making music in my apartment. Too hot. Almost pitch dark outside on the streets, with no sound a round. Just one single window in sight. With a red light. Never discovered anything more.

This War Is Finally Lost - Ending a relationship, of any kind, could be a relief. Even if we lose. Winning is not important anymore as is ending. Exactly like wars.

This week’s premiere is the latest in the line of sublime disco and funk edits curated, and crafted by Nicholas Church and Joseph Spencer of Casino Times. Hailing from London, this duo has released EPs and albums on labels like WOLF and recently, Omena. Third in their stand alone series of “Casino Edits,” they’ve laid down their own production on the A-side, taking a cover of an early blues classic and cutting it up into a groovy Italo-inspired DJ tool, interspersed with Spanish flamenco guitar and claps.

Malcolm ( @john-malcolm-moore) is the choice for their B-side cut. Based in Berlin via UK, John Malcolm Moore made his name as a member of the Tief Music crew, formerly one half of the duo Sisterhood and now putting out solo material with Banoffee Pies. His inspiration for editing this time around was sparked by the discovery of cheeky dial tones and voices within the intro of a late 70’s NY disco jam. Here he’s flipped it to sound much more steady and hard-hitting on the dance floor, with various percussions abound. Bongos, toms and chunky Linn drum-esque claps permeate the beat while girl groups swoon over top with harmonies. A male voice from afar whispers in “be with me tonight,” and suddenly the bass drops in sweeping in all the vibes and energy of the room (or more appropriately, loft).

This collection overall comes nicely paired for any party desiring that vintage touch and cosmic flair. Casino Times has released the beast from the box, letting all record collectors know where to find good, sturdy jammers ready to shake the foundation of any neighborhood disco.
