Free Shelter invites the house extraordinaire, @inner-sense, for the 12th installment of their guest mix series on IDA Radio.

Based in Lille, with influences from both the shores of UK as well as the East-Coast of the US, Inner Sense has made a name for himself with his clear cut House selections. 

Known for putting the capital H in House, he started his own musical journey through the radio show by Dimitri (back then not known as the guy from Paris) in the early-90s. Via the radio show he got introduced to "classic underground dance music" as he puts it himself, mainly Garage House (nowadays known as just "classic" house). This then put him on journey through the likes of Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Tony Humphries, Sound Factory Bar, The Shelter, Masters At Work... well you get the jist; The godfathers of house so to say. 

Even though there are some bits and bops ideas for releases sometime in the future, we'll more than happy to settle for this amazing mix. A true journey through the landscapes of House that'll work perfect for the incoming summer.

With Already Won, Joep Mencke ventures into new territory, bringing a housier, indie-dance-infused sound to the forefront of his expanding musical universe. Known for his organic sound and emotional depth, Joep now explores a different side of himself — turning up the energy with a three-track EP designed to move both body and soul.

The EP kicks off with “Already Won” — a bold statement track driven by funky piano stabs, a deep indie-house rhythm, and a soulful vocal hook. A celebration of self-belief, the track radiates the confidence of someone who knows they’re exactly where they’re meant to be.

“Out of My Mind” dives into late-night territory, where hypnotic vocals, bright stabs, and a driving beat invite full surrender — a soundtrack for letting go and getting lost in the moment.

“Disco Driver” wraps up the EP with playful, retro-tinged flair. Anchored by a rolling bass-line, staccato strings, and triumphant brass, it blends disco nostalgia with indie-dance energy, made for euphoric dance-floor moments.

 Already Won is Joep Mencke stepping beyond boundaries and exploring his creative expressions while staying grounded in emotional storytelling.

Our next installment in the Mixed By series is extra special as it comes from pioneer of the Italo House scene DON CARLOS aka Carlo Troja. Born in the North Italian town of Varese, the world- renowned producer/DJ began to harness his rhythmic craft in the late 70s, undeniably forming the foundations from which luxurious Italian house music was built. Troja’s hard work has sculpted much of our favourite soulful electronic music, jazzy deep house grooves and afro-flavoured funky records. His influence echos throughout modern day house productions from Palms Trax, Hunee to Young Marco and Jonny Negro. Released in 1991 on Calypso Records, ‘Alone’, was the first track from Troja, our first introduction to the style of DON CARLOS’, in came the cleanest sine lead synths, twinkling catchy keys and addictive yet subtle basslines. With its instantaneous joy inducing power, it was clear to listeners that these soulful melodies were being delivered to us by an individual who would become intrinsic to creating another part of the house music tapestry.

With the ‘Meditteraneo’ compilation released on IRMA Recordings in 2004, releases on Eric Morillo’s Subliminal Soul and now the release of ‘Alina’ on Zagreb-based record label, Imogen, run by local DJ talents Ilija Rudman and Antonio Žuža, this artist clearly knows how to find the best platforms from which to distribute his music, working with labels who are an organic fit and with whom he finds a genuine connection and it is for these reasons that we will be enjoying his music for years to come.We had the pleasure of interviewing the man himself.
