LB aka LABAT from Lyon (France) is an emerging artist who has released exciting House and Electro EPs on labels such as D.KO Records, Wolf Music and Mall Grab’s imprint Steel City Dance Discs. Besides of his DJ sets, the Lyon-based artist plays live sets based on old school gear which he so far performed for Boiler Room, DJ Mag and in the legendary club fabric in London.For this edition of MIXED BY, we had a little chat about how he became a live act, his influences and his newly founded label, Poumpet Records, which will release music by himself and artists such as partypoi69 very soon.

In the past month I was lucky enough to attend Jan’s DJ workshop at de School. We worked towards recording a personal favourite one-hour club mix.

As I started mixing in the final days of the (remarkable) post-covid summer of 2022, the mix is a reflection of the first months and many hours of digging and bedroom practice that followed. Music has been with me all my life and has known many shapes, but this specific form of self-expression resonates with me deeply, and I have felt more peace and joy over the past months because of it which I am grateful for.

I selected some of my recent favourite tracks of the to me fascinating world of electronic music, starting in 1995, but mostly newer releases from the current age up to the first months of 2023. I aimed to express the emotions described above, characterized by the energy I feel with it through prominent percussion elements. It is dedicated to the feeling you get when life is serving you with beauty. To me for example on an occasional club night, to you, for when or whatever that may be.

It is also dedicated to my dearest and oldest friend Floor, who has very sadly past away on the final day of 2021. Despite facing the most challenging illness for years, she has showed an extraordinary strength, dedication, and a powerful entrepreneurial mindset building the ffortfoundation (amongst other things) in the final period of her life, which has inspired and helped me, others, and more to come immensely. She taught us to cherish life and to pursue what truly matters to our hearts, even when that may seem daunting or challenging at times.

Finally, the mix is an ode to the upcoming summer which I am sure many of you can already feel tingling in your little toes with the first sun rays coming out, and to more to come <3.

Thank you Jan for being the nicest teacher and providing us all with the opportunity to work with you on a tailored road towards an end goal, it means a lot. It’s no longer news to anyone that Australian electronic music propelled itself to international spotlight in recent years. There is an infinite array of up and coming talent emerging from down under. Amongst them are the dynamic duo of DJ Sarah and Georgia Bird, known as In2stellar, whose collaboration started in 2017. 

Their energetic sets influenced by 90s dance music, fusing gritty breaks, UK bass and proggy bass lines are a candid insight into their true selves that we are pleased to discover through this insightful conversation.

Through his productions on Rhythm Section, Studio Barnhus and his own elusive white label series Tartan, he’s become a hit machine responsible for elevating dancefloors everywhere. Headed by Palms Trax, Wallace adds CWPT to his prestigious discography list, cooking up a four track EP of leftfield disco, progressive house and wonky drum rhythms with a seasoning of psychedelia. We had a chat with the UK-based musician to dig a little deeper into the man and the music.

Musically, they are grounded in classic house and disco, but frequently experiment with a wide range of music, reaching from percussive grooves to breakbeats and techno.
