Ambient Babestation Meltdown, otherwise known as Rachael Williams, is a true character. Her sets gravitate towards records old and new that pulse with energy, irony and intelligence, a sort of thinking-person’s party DJ, yet far less annoying than that might sound. As one half of DiASKi, alongside Joe Brooke-Smith, she produces sci-fi tinted trippers that will soon emerge on a debut record from DBA, and recently provided some different dystopian flavours to the newly maskless masses at Gala Festival.

Yuzo Iwata comes to the plate for another episode of ‘Mixed By’. Building from Ambient beginnings, Yuzo shows patience and skill in building his sound over the hour; swimming through his pool of genres past Dancehall, Acid and Trance along the way.

This same skillset is on play across his debut album, Kaizu, which recently dropped on Melbourne's Butter Sessions. Yuzo flexes his sound design muscles across the LP; Balearic textures, broken rhythms and a nod to Japanese video games and eighties fusion, his many influences are expressed with finesse across the full works. For me, Kaizu represents what it really must be like to live inside Yuzo’s head, and what a place it must be!

Rosie Ama and Nadia are everywhere thses days, sporting their trophy pics on social media. The duo started their radio show on London's Balamii Radio in 2016 and soon started performing together in clubs. Gigs across the UK and Europe followed, and now, a fistfull of days after, we see them producing acid and trance tracks and bake more plans for the future together. 

Here we see them LAYERing that blend of acid not acid with wacko electronica on a tempo rollercoaster.

LAYER #303 | Kiara Scuro

Lis Sarroca's sound bridges the past and the present. Both future-facing and old school, you'll find the Barcelona-based artist crafting music that's brimming with soul and groove. She draws from the expansive realms of house music, touching on the deep, the soulful and the acidic, whilst sometimes dipping her toe into Balearic and Italo. 

As is for many, music has always been a means for Lis to confidently express herself, which she's done so on releases for acclaimed labels like Hot Haus Recs, Mobilee Records, Shall Not Fade, Chiwax and !K7. Set on having a platform for her own music, and for artists and friends of a similar musical mindset, she launched her own label venture last year, Maai Records, which has housed two records of her own and two VA releases, the newest of which will drop on 18th November.

These achievements haven't come without graft - as a DJ she's been in the game for over 15 years, picking up her first pair of CD players back in 2007. Her DJing is entwined with her love of travelling, be it digging out dusty gems in undiscovered places or making new connections with like-minded artists - she takes inspiration from every experience and feeds it back into her own music.

After being introduced to Lis at our Barbarella's takeover earlier this year we knew she had to partake in our mix series. So here it is, a club-ready collection of pumping and energetic house (in the loosest sense) to get you primed and ready for the weekend... Thursday is the new Friday after all.

It’s no longer news to anyone that Australian electronic music propelled itself to international spotlight in recent years. There is an infinite array of up and coming talent emerging from down under. Amongst them are the dynamic duo of DJ Sarah and Georgia Bird, known as In2stellar, whose collaboration started in 2017. 

Their energetic sets influenced by 90s dance music, fusing gritty breaks, UK bass and proggy bass lines are a candid insight into their true selves that we are pleased to discover through this insightful conversation.
