Gladstone Deluxe is one of the most exciting musicians in the US right now. They make futuristic, deep, percussive yet smooth techno, deep house and electro. They also play timbales in NYC queer and trans salsa band Las Mariquitas, and are a frequent collaborator with fellow East Coast sonic trailblazers Kiernan Laveaux, Johnny Zoloft, and Mira Mira. They have released on Black Techno Matters, Data Disk, Misc, Innocent Music, How Things Are Made, and now Fixed Rhythms is excited to add to the Gladstone lore with their new offering, “No Haterade EP”.

A1 “Cleanse” is zippy tech-y house…think groovy, up-beat, sexy, like something you’d hear in a Titonton Duvante set. A2 is a remix, “Teakup - Where’s My Snare (Gladstone Deluxe Remix)”. Now the EP takes a turn towards psychedelic electro. Spacey trippy vocal manipulations, swelling deep space gravitational waves swelling and resolving. The B side opens with the “No Haterade” track. Arpeggiated electro that slaps with swagger. The final track is a longer, 9 minute driving deep housey techno tune. A bass line that you never want to stop, luscious pads, brain-tingling pings, melodic percussive synth runs, and a touch of acid.

Our tenth entry is here, and we’re marking this minor milestone with major vibes. Chicago-based duo @hotpretty.fm can frequently be found behind the decks of the formidable Smartbar, a house music institution in the genre’s hometown since 1982. As prolific producers, their discography spans labels including Semi Delicious, Neptune Discs, Ritmo Fatale, Sound As, and more.

United by a common love for trippy and proggy aesthetics they subtly mix their various influences, meanwhile…FM 010 serves as a showcase of their sound. A focused, gradual crescendo culminates in an ethereal energy over the course of an hour.

When he's not making music as @octochamp he's one half of Rigid Disco or producing and directing music videos as well as creating various works of art. Today we'll be focusing on his solo musical identity, though. So far, he's released an EP on Boutade Musique as well as a couple of free downloads and remixes. His sound is fairly hard to pin down but groovy, natural sounding percussion seems to be a staple.

OCTO CHAMP's forthcoming EP for @lgsrec is entitled "Not Quite Here Yet" and features four tracks, two fairly hazy morning after jams and two warm cuts made for the dancefloor. Our premiere and the A2, 'Said You Were' is one of the latter. Organic sounding drums with an extensive array of scuttling and pattering percussion serve up this tasty groove while the bass keeps a steady rhythm. Sampled diva-esque vocals provide a light-hearted touch and some simple fluctuating synth lines help to tie it all together. The focus here is definitely on the thickly layered and diverse drums which more than likely include the kitchen sink.
