A 22-year-old artist based in Paris, Bwi-Bwi began his production career when he was fifteen and is already making waves across Europe with his super-fresh deconstructed style of house. Since 2012, as part of duo M&C, he has a regular slot on Rinse FR, has released solo projects on the likes of Kitsuné and is now an affiliate of Lüüd Discs where this track was originally released on vinyl. His production on ‘Insight’ is well considered and intelligent. Every chord fits neatly into place and a purveying melody gives the track a familiar warmth that feels like coming home.

@wewillalwaysbealovesong is a French label with a very impressive back catalogue, bringing together the likes of Ilija Rudman, Tevo Howard and @PontyMython (who is the subject of today's Premiere). This is their 11th outing, the second of which has been pressed to wax. This is essentially a remix EP, harnessing the talents of Black Loops, Nebraska, Jay Haze and @Bal5000. Bal5000 is the alias of Bálint Forgács, a producer hailing from Budapest with previous appearances on the Dirt Crew sub-label Speil and the Nachtbraker headed Quartet Series.


The original track 'So What Did You Expect' released just over a month ago is a typically quirky affair, with plinky melodies and a funky bass line to boot. What Bal5000 has done with his interpretation is strip everything right back to it's basics. The intro of the remix is sublime, taking the chords and pads of the original and laying filtered smatterings of the beats creating an almost cosmic feel. Kicking fully in at just over 3 minutes, you would be forgiven for thinking that it dragged on a little too much but boy oh boy that it most definitely the case here, just the right amount of variation and tease before the beats and bassline are introduced after a rather large resonated high pass filter. There are many nice little sub-melodies and phrases going on in this remix, maybe some will missed in a club environment but on a set of decent headphones this can truly be appreciated for what it is; a brooding slow burner with amazing spatial qualities.

wewillalwaysbealovesong has been a label that we’ve been watching, supporting and listening to in it’s growth, especially over the past year. The French imprint has a penitence for releasing heartfelt funkmelodica (yes, that’s a new genre name that we just decided to create out of thin air), and have done so with style; releasing EPs from DJ Yellow, Tevo Howard and most recently, a superb quartet of heavenly cuts from the ever mysterious, Ponty Mython. 

The Tropic of Capricorn EP, released on 12” last month, now gives birth to a follow-up ensemble of remixes, from the likes of Black Loops, Bal5000, Nebraska and everyone’s favorite Fuckpony, the one and only Mr. Jay Haze.

Today we present to you and premiere Jay Haze’s ’Turkish Lover’ rendition of Turkish Bath, which appeared as the B1 on the original EP, and was about as funkmelodic as they come. One thing Jay Haze has always been known for, however, is his ability to produce music that always sounds different than you’d expect, and it’s one of the reasons he has and will always remain relevant, so long as he carries on as he has all these years. 

Haze’s mix starts off down the dark and dubby route during the first half of the excursion, before unleashing the filter on the bass, swirling around the old LFO whip, right before bringing in an arsenal of closed hats and shuffling percussion that turn the energy knob up and make this one that will surely get any discerning dance floor moving in the wee hours.

Heard of Lux Experience yet? No? Well, that’s unfortunate. Because he’s actually an upcoming norse God boogying down from Valhalla to bring you the unadulterated disco-funk you’ll need to groovify your pathetic excuse for a life. Don’t believe us? Well let Lux tell you himself.

In answering the question, "Who the f..k is Lux Experience?" The Norwegian producer responds, “[I am] a old school breaker, a hip hop dedicator, a house party maker, killing those beats embracer. It doesn't hurt that [I am] one of the pioneers of the us house sound in Scandinavia, got heavy weight dj experience. [I am] about to write a new chapter in the Norwegian club music history!”

If that’s not already enough bravado for you pledge your allegiance to Lux, take a listen at his sophomore release by the lovely people over at wewillalwaysbealovesong. You’ve probably heard of these funky lads before. They’re the French tour de force behind Ponty Mython’s fuego EP “Tropic Of Capricorn,” which was recently remixed by the likes of Black Loops, Nebraska, BAL5000, and Jay Haze (yes, please).

In “Make U All Jam,” Lux’s bio comes in real handy to understand that influences that make up the focal points of this record. It certainly seems to be from the era of where popping and locking was a new craze taking the Bronx by storm in the 1970s. If we had to describe the entire EP, we’d say that it sounds like an homage to the birth of hip-hop - an anthology of beats that converged to jumpstart one of the most influential movements of our time. From disco, to funk and R&B, to the new sounds being created by technological achievements like drum machines, sequencers and synthesizers - Lux’s release has it all.

Take his track “Stylish” for example. As soon as you hit play, one will immediately begin forming connections to the likes of artists such as Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Afrika Bambaataa. Seriously, you hear those knee-slapping, guitar licks?! They’re enough to make Nile Rodgers blush. And don’t even get me started on them vocoder-laden melodies and grooves! If you and are like us, and are still reeling from “The Get Down” being canceled, cop “Stylish” along with Lux’s other three tracks to be taken back to a better, without-a-doubt funkier time.
