Following the sublime smash debut “X17”, LA-based label Elbow Grease head conductor Dave Aju continues on his righteous piece-by-piece journey toward a multi-genre multiverse, where deep musical roots come together in kaleidoscopic expression, and unfakeable funk reigns supreme. 

“Spacio Tempo” picks up where we last left off, though with a notable drop in bpm as the title implies, with a rolling 4/4 textural tapestry that combines pulsating layers of soulful synth work, effervescent live percussion, and heavenly strings into a dense yet open-as-the-night-sky extended gem yet again. Just as the machine patterns of near-equator rhythms bubble over and begin to lock into a hypnotic groove, a bold left turn into a dank latin jazz noir vibraphone solo and SH-101 duet tango ensues, before landing us safely back at home base - right on time, at its own spacial pace. 

As per the Elbow Grease release recipe so far, the B1 cut offers DJs a more driving flex, this time in the form of the “Acido Tempo Mix”: a raw 303-driven take on the original which will undoubtedly stomp its way fiercely thru many bass bins in sweaty basements and warehouses worldwide. Finally the B2 blessing “Domingo Dub” closes things out, removing all but the highest vibes as an ambient drifting and uplifting take on the main theme, where the faintest of vocal tones, space echoes, and light percussive touches leave us elated in a West Coast, with subtle splashes from the D, sunset dream. Another solid single turned three-tracker sure-shot from EG.

Following his 2017 album on Omena, Saine's new LP 'Ceramics' is a caringly laid out array of sound - the album has a vivid sense of life and movement to it.

Manoeuvring between styles and atmospheres comes second nature to Saine, but what's truly highlighted here is emotion - steering away from short-lived trends, the LP offers a non-forced listening experience by an artist exploring the different facets of what his music can be.

Swaying analogue synthesizer arpeggios, playful beat-work and what feels like echoes from an alternate dimension sum up a full-length which pushes and pulls at the fabric of what you've come to expect from Saine and releases this November on Omena Records.

This November, favoured Sydney selector and crate digger Marco Vella, a.k.a Body Corp, returns with an EP of eight songs collected over the years from various bedrooms, backyards and coastal retreats.

Doing what he does best, Vella peppers this record with balearic synths and dreamy swells, creating an atmospheric anthology of vignettes that could just as easily soundtrack a long train ride through the Italian countryside as they are at home in Sydney’s quiet bays and bywaters. A drive through the desert, a walk through coastal mangroves, a hungover sharehouse in the city’s crumbling inner suburbs - somehow all can be found between the pages of this short and beautiful collection.

A prolific producer and always active on the Sydney DJ circuit, Vella is known for his ambient mixes for the likes of Sanpo Disco, Ear to Ear, Best Effort and Theory Therapy. He has also contributed tracks to CC: Disco’s ‘First Light’ compilation, the Interior Music series, and Plastic World Vol. 1.

When he isn’t working solo, Vella performs as part of Retiree, with releases on London’s scene-defining Rhythm Section label.

PREMIERE: Body Corp - Another Moment

Italian native MUSTA presents an elaborate six track LP project, titled ‘Tamburi Parlanti’ which translates to ‘Talking Drums’ in English. The body of work marks a turning point in his career to make more than electronic music, and delves into a plethora of live music and field recordings recorded for the album, ranging from polyrhythmic tribal drum-patterns to Afro-funk bass chords, congas and jazz-keyboard, played by local musicians, as well as himself.

Musta’s love for music began during his 11 years spent living in the Dominican Republic. This encounter of Latin rhythms started the musical genre contamination that to this day distinguishes his productions. In this LP, like the rest of his releases, the music is diverse, tribal and hypnotic. Respectful of the past yet constantly innovative. This love of the past and future has led him to release edits and originals on staple labels such as Nervous Records, Samosa Records and Tropical Disco to name a few.

Music aside the artwork has significant meaning, the mask shown is that of the ancient Mamuthone icon of Sardinian folklore which goes back further than 2000 years, defined as a representation of the collective soul of Sardinia, the ancient ritual of the Mamuthone creatures is that of a rhythmic dance where 12 of the creatures dance together, representing the 12 months of the year. With this theme, Musta aims to connect the dots of this pastime tradition into the album, reflecting it visually as well as through the music itself.

"Tamburi Parlanti LP is a collection of songs that I’ve made myself around the world, recording and collaborating with various musicians of many different nationalities. The music reflects my musical path in recent years which draws strong inspiration from afro-funk and latin disco from the 70s and 80s. My intent is to create music that presents a journey between the hottest Latin sounds, over to more African disco rhythms.” - Says MUSTA on the EP.

In times when they are in great demand, we are coming through with some (albeit digital) Fresh Fruits via none other the sonisphere's number one sonic citrus supplier, Fruit Merchant. This time round it's Christian Kroupa on delivery duty, coming through with three suitably fresh dance floor cuts, with label associate Manuel Fischer on the remix. This record marks the fifth instalment from Hidden Spheres Fruit Merchant imprint and the first for 2020. 

We're premiering, 'Blind To The Beauty', which kicks off the flip. Whilst it's tempting to nip the fruit analogies in the bud, it's hard not to describe this track as a fresh and fragrant breath of fresh air, in these unusual times. Suitably dance floor (your living room/ kitchen diner) ready, whilst remaining full bodied in melodic cadence, this one is both a keeper for these times of isolation and beyond when things kick on.

Since 2012, Melbourne’s Rohan Newman has recorded as Roland Tings, bringing his now trademark organic touch to the dance and electronic community. Following last year's sun-soaked album Salt Water, the producer returns with a new EP, First Wave. Rather than following suit of the highly collaborative album that preceded it, First Wave signals a return to Newman’s instinctive and solitary approach to songwriting, the same ethos that guided him while crafting his earliest Roland Tings material.

Drawing inspiration from his coastal surroundings, First Wave is liquid, malleable and oil-slick. Opener “Lights on the Headland” pulses with acid chirps and inky synths. “Down The Line” and “Orange Circle” take a softer focus, their melodies peeking out from a humid haze like sunbursts through the marine layer. The title track captures the essence of the EP — a feeling of euphoric come-up — before the closing track “Leaving” brings the pace down, gently undulating at a slower tempo as if underwater.

The sonic throughlines on First Wave are clear: drum machines and 80s snare, swirling pads with rolls of bass, and glittering arpeggios that channel shimmering sea creatures under the water’s surface. Like liquid, it all seamlessly flows, but it’s an undercurrent of intuition and melody that unites the music as distinctly Roland Tings.
