Camion Bazar deliver their psychedelia infused ‘Alteration’ EP via their own Jaki Records this February, comprising five original tracks from the Paris-based duo.

Camion Bazar is a collaborative project from Benedetta Bertella and Romain Hemono who over the past few years have been developing the project as DJ’s, stage curators and producers. Their tripped-out twist on House, Techno, Electronica and more has come via their own Jaki Records label and here the story continues with their latest EP, ‘Alteration’, pencilled for release in early 2023 and laden with original vocals from Benedetta throughout. The project will be released alongside the pairs debut live show at La Machine du Moulin Rouge in Paris.

Title-cut ‘Alteration’ opens and sees the pair merge warped synths, expansive dub echoes and bumpy organic drums alongside psychedelic guitar lines and hypnotic vocal chants. ‘Horizon’ follows elongated sub bass tones, intricately intertwined stabs, airy vocals and dubbed out keys before ‘Venosa’ employs playful drum breaks, an amalgamation of gnarly, resonant synth lines, bouncy bass groove and trippy spoken word vocal lines throughout.

‘Divinorum’ then sees the pair offer up a more classic house sound courtesy of crunchy drums, airy chord sequences, bubbling metallic arpeggios and sweeping atmospherics. ‘Limonia Acida’ then completes the package with jazzy keys, choppy bass stabs, a heavily swung drum workout and choppy vocal cuts ebbing and flowing throughout the composition.

MOTZ Premiere: Camion Bazar - No Flag [Enemy Dance Records]

Working with old friends is always a joyous thing so Optimo Music is delighted to be releasing the new EP from our old friend Facets. Boris has been coming to our New York gigs for as long as I can remember and always brings a great energy. That energy flows over into his music. EBM has become a much abused term in recent times but here are some tracks exploring that EBM DNA where the creator 100% knows that history and what they are doing. Taking that knowledge and bringing that sound right up to date. We asked Boris for some notes on the tracks.

He said -

All three tracks spread across different genres I like and each has its own unique type of energy. 

“Noć,” which includes haunting Serbian vocals from Marija Kovacevic and lyrics by Jesus Martinez, has an arpeggiated sequence along with a new wave-esque bassline. 

“Breakable” is a driving synth track that used lots of modulation accompanied by a 12-bit drum machine. 

Finally, “Reveal Yourself” is an EBM track on which I incorporated my own vocals for the first time, as well as lyrics that came from a vivid dream I had.

‘Parallel Processing’ is spread out across six and a half minutes in a subtly unfurling fashion with punchy,shuffled drums, pulsating voices and a swelling low-end drive at its core while a murky bass drone and twitchy acid tinged synth licks steadily unfold throughout. "Parallel processing speaks out against the massive use of force by the police to maintain order"

2020 marks five years of Rhythm Section International and to celebrate the Peckham-based label has brought together a host of family, friends and newcomers for a hefty compilation, SHOUTS. Spanning a wide breadth of sounds and styles, the 36 track release features the likes of old friends like Prequel, Mallard, Neu Graffik and Contours, as well as contemporaries and newcomers like Yu Su, Emma Jean-Thackray, Session Victim and our pick from Chilean Born, Milan Based DJ and producer Paula Tape. 

Label boss Bradley Zero penned some words about Paula and her Rhythm Section debut for the compilation: "Her Track 'Panamericana' channels her South American roots with a conga-led percussive pattern backed by a driving Italo rhythm - a gentle nod to her adopted country where she has quickly become an integral part of the scene. With staccato vocal samples, arpeggiating synths and hypnotic screeches, Paula Tape demonstrates her prowess as a composer with a keen ear for the past and a vision for the future."
