David Agrella launches his own Agrellomatica Records imprint this May with four original cuts entitled the ‘Transition’ EP.

David Agrella is an Italian recording artist, DJ, Producer. Hooked into a music culture at a very early age, David started playing records in clubs in his hometown of Benevento before completing his studies as a sound engineer in Rome. He then moved to London in 2011, where he fast gained a reputation as a prolific selector with vast eclecticism and musical versatility. Hosting a monthly radio show called ‘Agrellomatica’ on the radio station Bloop and experimenting in the studio, David has been manipulating the sound of analogue synthesizers, drum machines and DJ sets alike with a unique vision. Driven by the need to encompass his musical inspirations and background connecting the dots between different electronic dance music styles, he now launches his eponymous record label, Agrellomatica Records.Title track ‘Transition’ gets the ball rolling with a fluid drum sequence fused with rubbery synths and absorbing pads underneath before the ‘Floor Mix’ adds cosmic energy and dynamic fx to the exquisite original.

One of the defining names of mid-00s European electro, dynArec was responsible for EP after EP of high-quality machine music on well-known labels as well as his own Vaporwave imprint. After slowing down a bit in the 2010s, this 5-tracker now appears on Berlin’s Libertine Records, further cementing their reputation for working with members of the electro-techno hall of fame – Libertine alumni include Gosub, Luke Vibert, Khan, DMX Krew, DJ Di’jital…the list goes on. dynArec’s ‘Cyber Gangster’ is space-electro par excellence, with a fierce gated bassline and atmospheric vox conjuring the intrigue of Blade Runner’s dystopian LA at night.

Veteran Chicago House pioneer Boo Williams delivers stand out genre melding EP on Italian record label, NICEPEOPLE. The three track EP meanders through elements of house and techno with real depth. This is the “LOL” EP, landing January 2021 on vinyl, and you can happily say this one fully lives up to its expectations. 

The title track “LOL” chugs along with pure energy of sounds of the past, twisting beeps and bleeps whirring throughout. The shuffling drums make this one, brushing by as they continue to drive the opener. The clue is in the title here as Williams uses trippy samples of laughter which flash in and out throughout the duration. 

Next on the agenda is “Backwards Run”, a blissful deep and emotive encounter with Boo doing what he does best. Trickling synths and pads meander around a clean cut house arrangement, voices circle around the belly of the track making this another hypnotic outing. 

Elastic bass creates a sense of urgency in “Bangin Out”, the last of the EP which takes up the whole of the B-side. A real abrupt and direct track, the kind that leaves the crowd in a trance when utilised in the right moment, creating suspense in the club room before elevating to the next track. A tinge of acid and intelligent key arrangement enforcing more masterpiece material. 

This is Boo Williams at his finest once more, landing on a label that is not afraid to push a variety of sounds as long as the consistent quality is there. A real nod to sounds of the past, no egos in sight, just plain and simple effective dance floor sounds from one of the heroes of this vibe.
