The sun was setting on the boulevard as he prepared to line up for the last run of the day. He was tired and beaten, his feet were weary and he struggled to rally himself to the forefront to repeat the process. 

Most of the other skaters had headed home for the evening having succumbed to the dense warmth of the midsummer sun. 

He began to roll, moving slowly forwards before kicking up speed. 

This was it, as he weaved between the cracks and bumps in the direction of the slope. Then he kicked out, airwalk to fakie and land. 

The day was done.

Marking the label’s most club-ready outing to date, and signalling a venture into darker musical realms for the Magic Ritmo co-boss, the three tracks on 'Echo Ritual' connect the dots between electro, EBM and wave.

A departure from the Italo, leftfield house and trance-soaked sounds heard on his previous releases for the likes of Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi and Palms Trax's CWPT, ‘Echo Ritual’ charges straight out the gates with its euphoric, whirring synths that ring out over an infectious chugging bass line.

‘Northern Chug’ follows suit, taking cues from visceral body music and heavy, stomping electro, before REES ups the tempo for closing track ‘Venom’; another deadly dose of slithering electro fuelled by biting, metallic synths and razor sharp percussion.

Solenoid returns to House Music with a fantastic release from an emerging DJ and producer of great talent: Ahni. The three tracks of the EP "Charli" are characterised by a distinct 90s progressive house vibe while always keeping an eye towards the contemporary, maintaining a high BPM and strong energy throughout. An EP designed for the dance floor with tribal and hypnotic hints, as seen in the opening track "Solenoid Samba," but also featuring more "Pop" elements as in the case of the title track "Charli” and “This Land Is Still My Home”. Jesse Bru remains one of modern dance music’s most intriguing technicians, both from a humanistic and machine driven perspective. His sound is born deeply from 90s sample based approaches, and this fascination has been stretched out and rewritten constantly throughout his releases to great effect. Bru primarily releases music under the guise of House, but to delve deep within his records is to see a much broader perspective, where many genres can be found within the grooves and rhythms. His melodic work, with a particular emphasis on vocal samples as part of melodic exchanges with pianos and synths, is inspiring to say the least, and as a core facet of his work always aims to shift his sound onwards and upwards. There aren’t many styles that aren’t touched upon within his discography, and his journey to date feels very much like an exercise in understanding the liminal spaces that persist between a myriad of genres.
