Up next is an undercover project of a well-known producer who decided it was time to experiment, broaden his sound and produce music without the expectation that comes with an established name. Lore of the Samurai delivers an expertly crafted record with classic Chicago influences, hints of electro and up-tempo technoid house.
 
EP opener, ‘City Loop,’ is a house track with that classic house feel, thanks to its moody sample loops, background chants and energetic percussion. The strings and simplistic piano work are true to form and make for an altogether enticing opener. ‘Deeper Into Orbit’ has the roughness of some of the most praised productions out of Chicago, and a swing that is reminiscent of an old Boo Williams track. The surprise cut of the pack is definitely ‘Space Designer’. It’s an up-tempo affair with syncopated bass working together with a classic Marimba loop and percussion that makes you want to dance, dance, dance.  

‘Alpha Base’ delves deep in electro territory with boombap drum programming, while still taking inspiration from classic deep house elements like its chords and sample hits. Watch out for that bass-arpeggio-break, it’s killer. EP closer ‘Justifice’, is as smooth as a deep house track can be with lovely, filtered chords and massive vocal sent through a vocoder that would have made Zapp & Roger proud. The whole EP has a great groove, and you can hear the craftmanship just oozing out your speakers. In short, an essential package with something for everyone.

RDH is the newest single from Naarm/Melbourne's Aka Zeb. Laced with live drums and percussion, Rhodes, synth bass, strings and saxophone (courtesy of Tom Edwards), Zeb's track builds a solid, jazzy groove fit for any dance floor. The single also features a radio edit with an alternative sax take, alongside 3 remixes from talented Naarm/Melbourne producers Priya,  jonQuil, and Horatio Luna all taking the track in different and groovy directions.

On his newest EP, “We Should Chill on the Windowsill More,” Manchester-based producer Goddard refines his palette of Ambient, Downtempo, and Electro-Jazz, genres which he regularly showcases on his monthly Reform Radio Show, Downtown Groove Sessions. The result is an EP that, in its restless experimentation and attention to detail, recalls such pioneers of these sub-genres as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Squarepusher.

	After opening A-side track, “Far from Home”, starts things off on a stripped-back, understated note, “Where You Gone” comes in on a harder, more driving tempo. The opening kick drums are something out of a hardcore Drum’n’Bass tune, but soon, swelling pads and orchestral keys arrive to relieve the heaviness. The track masterfully toes the line between outright propulsive House and lush, textured Ambient. As it reaches halfway, the chopped vocal sample, clattering hi-hats, and gorgeous ambient flourishes, suddenly morph into a synth-heavy jam-out, with multiple, subtle drops. As the track grows looser and more sparse towards the conclusion until all that is left is the lead piano melody, it feels as if Goddard wants us to look back and to take in this panorama of Downtempo Ambient-House majesty which we have just journeyed through. 

	Releasing on London-based label, FINA Records, this is Goddard’s calling card as a meticulous craftsman of dreamy, laid-back, emotionally-resonant experimental House. Showcasing himself as an artist who is building upon his idols to create his own signature style, here, he provides his listeners a warm, adventurous environment to get lost in.
