Following December’s amazing Helios EP (Optimo Music), Argentina’s finest, Lux & Hermetics return with the incredible four track Aurora EP, released 18th April on Otherness.

Lux (Lucas Chaumont) and Hermetics (Santiago Nino) have been friends for over a decade and almost inseparable for the last three. The duo share a deep fraternal love for philosophy, psychology, spirituality and the esoteric, which spills over in abundance into their music, offering a different flavor to most other electronic music collaborations. In fact, the pair are on a sonic quest to inject wonder, mystery, and a little sanctitude into your record collection.

Aurora was recorded in Buenos Aires in the midst of (Southern Hemisphere) Summer 2023. As you listen to the EP, feel your speakers bleed the atmosphere and ambience of those hazy South American early evenings on the beach, yellow parasols set against the red skies and the turquoise seas of the South Atlantic. If Helios is an EP for watching the sunset, then Aurora is for watching the stars come out as you and your friends prepare yourselves for an epic night ahead.

Craft Music's Good For Dance series continues with its second instalment and this one has been curated by none other than DJ Craft himself. Joining him are talented pals Schmoltz, Bogdan Ra, Romain FX, and Outra, also known as Joutro Mundo. These deep diggers are celebrated for their prowess in unearthing hidden gems and transforming them into dancefloor anthems and that's what they do here as each artist brings a unique flavour to the mix. Schmoltz's 'Luv The States' is a peak-time percussive disco jam, Bogdan Ra brings some slap-funk drums and glossy Italo synths and 'Tell Me Why' has crunchy drums and jagged synth stabs before a camp closer in 'Colosso'.

House High is the new off shoot of Orlando, FL based French Press Lounge, a division focusing on dance-forward house hybrids of all flavors and attitudes. We're happy to kick it off with a hot EP by Washington, DC based producer and DJ Torrello titled "Music (Music)."

With a handful of tracks and EPs out via Y4 Collective and theBasementDiscos plus a steamy sold-out tape on the legendary 100% Silk label, Torrello has steadily been growing a breezy, groovy catalog of heartfelt house tunes, straddling homegrown electronic introspection and dance floor readiness. The “Music (music) EP” goes heavy on the latter, shifting focus away from mid tempo office musings towards infectious, fun-loving house heaters.

Taking inspiration from the local DC scene where the underground pushes and pulls accessibility and experimentation into new forms, Torrello brings a classic 90’s house hit sensibility to the front, fusing breaks, bouncing basslines and big kicks with cheeky horn lines, looping vocal cuts and a lick of disco flair sure to please your inner ear. From the crunchy, honking title track to the emotive, almost Italo-like burner that is “Feel It,’ these tunes act as both slick bridges and sweet focal points to any set looking for a zany, carefree lift.

A product of the not-so-underground, genre-bending melting pot that is Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Don Glori (AKA Gordon Li) prepares to unleash his forthcoming album ‘Don’t Forget To Have Fun’ via DeepMatter Records. The third single to be unveiled from the record, ‘All Seeds’, highlights Don’s delicate touch. It sees him build a warm arrangement around an intoxicating bossa nova groove, complimented by fluttering saxophone pads, soft vocal murmurs, and flowing nylon stringed guitar. 

Following the release of his much-heralded 2022 LP ‘Welcome’, a subsequent sweep of the Australian festival circuit and an EU / UK tour, Don found himself straight back in the studio but coming up short this time around. He explains: “Don't Forget To Have Fun was initially recorded in mid 2022 after several months touring my first album Welcome and at a semi-tumultuous time in my life. Add in a tough 3 days in the studio - broken equipment, illness, burn out from the touring, 40-degree Australian summer heat, a bike accident, and I was left finding it quite hard to enjoy the music. All these things combined made me decide to put the DFTHF session recordings on ice indefinitely.”

Following his relocation to London, UK in 2023, Don managed to tap into a potent creative current, by taking himself to a place of discomfort, and taking his creative back to basics - allowing additional room for experimentation. He says “I revisited the album after moving to London in May 2023, I was living in a tiny room with barely any equipment and my only income was from the slight bit of touring I was doing which was all going towards rent and groceries. It was a good opportunity to redefine the songs from the DFTHF sessions and inject some new life into them. I had just finished touring Europe, moved to a new city, didn’t know anyone, and had all the free time in the world to experiment with wacky, zany ideas. In the end I re-recorded a lot of the parts on the record in the kitchen of my Whitechapel flat while my housemates were at work. (You can hear the ambulances in the background when you isolate some of the tracks)”.

This invigorating approach helped distil the initial album sketches into a compelling and intoxicating listening experience - with all tracks sharing similar subtle themes and commonalities running throughout. Lead single ‘First Touch’ found widespread support across Triple R, PBS-FM and community radio across Australia, seducing listeners with a trance-inducing groove and soundscape channelling the energy of late-night soul and instrumental cuts from the likes of Lynda Dawn, Sade, and John Carrol Kirby. On the album’s title, Don explains: ‘The name Don't Forget To Have Fun is a nice reminder to myself about the journey of the album. How you can change the narrative by keeping a positive attitude, trusting the process and continually experimenting.’ A true work of art, traversing jazz, funk, soul, RnB, samba and beyond, this record is hard to describe, but even harder to forget. 

Don Glori will release ‘All Seeds’ on May 10th and ‘Don’t Forget To Have Fun’ on June 7th via DeepMatter Records.

@LozGoddard joins Team Bad in the third installment of the @Quartetseries with the B1 cut, “Home”. Stepping away from his usual sample-oriented and fairly lighthearted sound, he contributes a hypnotizing, synth-heavy stomper. This groovy number revolves around an arpeggiated acid lead with a soulful vocal that fits perfectly despite the contrast. A secondary arpeggiated synth line whirls and mesmerizes while aggressive snares and machine-like claps propel the groove. Some tension is relieved temporarily with warm chords and a top end string before resuming to deliver the punishment on the Good Guys.
