We welcome Deep House maestro DJ Aakmael onto our roster with ‘The Hardbody Project’ EP, comprised of four original compositions from the Richmond, US-based artist.

Across the past decade and a half DJ Aakmael has unveiled an impressive back catalogue of soul-drenched, dynamic deep house via revered imprints such as Uzuri, Church, Scissor & Thread, Freerange and Second Hand Records amongst many more. Here we see his latest material perfectly interlace with our growing back catalogue of bumping house and raw deep cuts.

Leading the release is ‘Hardbody’, laid out across seven minutes with chopped brass samples, bright key sequences, modulating Moogesque resonant leads and shuffled drums before ‘Track 166’ shifts focus over to a deeper aesthetic via dubbed out chord swells, organic percussion and twinkling piano melodies.

The aptly named ‘Deepshyt’ opens the flip side, as the name would suggest employing an amalgamation of deep and entrancing synth work, crisp drums and spoken word vocal chants. ‘Strobe’ then rounds out the release with a more disco-tinged House feel, fusing together funk guitar licks, cinematic strings and a snaking bass groove atop Aakmael’s signature swinging rhythmic feel.

Cody Currie is back with a new song on Toy Tonics. The London born, Berlin based keyboarder, producer, singer, DJ and man of great style is a lead artist of the German label by now. The 22-year-old has released a few EPs that made him one of the probably most talked about newcomers in the new soulful house scene. "The Tom Misch of jazzy house" they called him, and maybe that description could fit. He plays most instruments himself, never uses samples, and the atmospheres he creates are unique.

For his new song, he teamed up one more time with Eliza Rose. The London vocalist, DJ, producer and radio host already was featured on Cody Currie’s last single "Moves". After a couple of well received gigs they did together, jamming live on stage, they decided to do another song. And here it is: Eliza’s sweet voice correspends perfectly with Cody’s chords and warm rolling grooves. The Rhodes piano riff and that funky bassline stay in your head after just one time listening. The two London souls fit so well together. And both are just at the beginning of their carrier. Eliza Rose is going to release her solo debut EP in Spring 2022 and Cody has an album coming up in Winter 2022.

Every so often there comes along a collective of producers that are so on top of their game, everything they touch turns to gold. Moonrise Hill Material is a label that typifies that statement. Folamour, Ethyène, Kaffe Crème & Okwa are a group of friends and producers that formed the imprint in 2015. Since then, every release has been better than the one before, great sample sourcing, funky as fuck beats and some excellent hip-hop joints have become something you can rely on from them.

The latest offering from Moonrise Hill comes in the form of an EP by Saint Paul, a collaborator on the ‘Love Me Some Friends’ VA released earlier this year. This 5 tracker is due out late May / early June and today we have the honour of premiering the A2 track ‘Heart Is A Melody’.

Saint Paul turns on the edit here of a track that evades me, but believe me it’s a sure fire pool party starter. He works his magic on the cuts of original bars and adds a rather sublime bassline lick, coupled with some smooth filter action to make this one stand head and shoulders above the sea of edits we currently seem to be drowning in nowadays. This track will burrow it's way into your subconscious and, like me, you will find yourself singing it non-stop.

Moonrise Hill have a knack of releasing music that is familiar but original, always having that extra little touch of class and this EP is a perfect example of that. The label should be on everyone's watch list, not only because of the quality of the music but also for the quality of the whole package. The artwork (by a gentleman named Jean Granon) has a certain charm, the aesthetic ties in with the music, familiar yet original.

The MUSHROOM HOUSE compilation is a collection of balearic, afro and cosmic disco tracks that have been released on several Toy Tonics EPs over the last 5 years. Toy Tonics now releases some of these EPs on a double vinyl together. This is the second part. Featuring eleven tracks. (Vol 1 was released in 2020.)

Original tracks and remixes by friends of the label: Kiwi, Red Axes,  Karl Hector, Hugo Capablanca, Harry Wolfman. Very special contributions by New York's legendary Joe Claussell and fashion designer Marcelo Burlon, who contributed the vocals to a song by Milan’s Barking Dogs. Art Alfie from Studio Barnhus is featured also with an exclusive track and legendary DJ Sprinkles with a magic rework of a Hard Ton song.

A few of the tracks had been already released on Gomma records. The now sleeping indie-electronica label that was the „mother“ of Toy Tonics records. Some were made exclusively for Toy Tonics.
