SAUL enlist the help of talented friends for their new EP - a feel good, summer-ready soundtrack, bursting with uplifting synths and groove-heavy broken beats

SAUL, is a joint project from the minds of Jack Stephenson-Oliver (keys player of fellow Rhythm Section INTL signee, Vels Trio) and producer Barney Whittaker, aka Footshooter.

With the success of their individual projects - Vels are soon to embark on a tour across the UK and Europe and Footshooter is growing from strength to strength following releases on Astral Black and Dance Regular - it’s exciting to hear what the duo will think up next.
When the two of them get together their jam sessions result in a fusion of jazz and broken beat. Atmospheric keys and synths interweave with programmed drums, laying the perfect ground for the all star cast of featured artists assembled for this record.

Collaboration is a key element to the creative output of SAUL, shining a light over individual and collective talents. Their second release, Mutualism, promises a stellar line-up of musical interaction. In the words of Barney, “the feature performances are all very different, the way they worked on the tracks really brought each one to life in a big way”.
The project starts with the sounds of sunrise. Opening with The Light, is Allysha Joy, a member of another group on Rhythm Section’s roster, 30/70. She crafts uplifting melodies that move gracefully through bouncy Rhodes chords. This track shines with sun-focused energy and up beat grooves that provide the perfect soundtrack for long summer festival days.

On Coalesce, featuring South London MC Natty Wylah, lofty, cloud-like atmospheres are built above classic Moog synths. The hypnotic bass and lead notes are equal parts hopeful, eerie and curious, matching the optimistic promise offered by Wylah’s hook: ‘don’t you want to find somewhere better?’. Subjects flow from party-focused lyrics to poetic streams of consciousness as Natty adopts a dreamy sung delivery by the end of the track.

The Ep comes to a serene close with a feature from ‘aden’ - recipient of the 2021 Fred Perry x Nicholas Daley Music Grant. The early image of sunlight may have faded, but the energetic focus of the project never dies. Swirling synths circle around sharp bass stabs, with a driving bassline taking over into the hook.

Other major features include the unmistakable tone of Lex Amour. During Flowers, her laid back, spoken style is accompanied by a slowed down G-Funk-inspired instrumental. With an illustrious list of collaborators already to her name (such as Kojey Radical, Wulu, George Riley and Ego Ella Mae) and sell out shows across the country, she makes her lyrical prowess evident. Lex effortlessly switches between rhythmical flows to hypnotic layered melodies - elevating the production to another level in the process.
The synergy between producers and vocalists is evident; the collaborations equal far more than the sum of their parts. In ‘Mutualism’ we see Saul’s vision fully come to fruition. The synergy is apparent, the possibilities - endless and the respect - mutual.

Aside from the Vocal guest appearance, Mutualism is also packed with instrumental cameos. SAUL turn to Ezra Collective’s sax player James Mollison on the track Can’t Wait. The seasoned five-piece are set to perform alongside the modern day jazz pioneer Kamasi Washington later this year. Mollison shows his range on this song as energy flows from soaring highs to long sustained lows, allowing a hint of dub influence to come to light.

Steppin up, steppin in. Tom Esselle, one half of the minds behind the South London label and former Peckham record store, Yam Records, joins the WOLF Music fam for his first full length EP. And you best believe it doesn’t disappoint. 
Following VA appearances on Rhythm Section and his own imprint, he goes all out for this first solo EP outing. Shuffling bumpers, SE LDN jazz-flecked deepness, tough drum workouts and broken beat heaters, all mixed down by Chaos In The CBD main man Beans, this really does have a cut for every occasion and shows an accomplished head rests on Esselle’s shoulders. Someone who’s been part of the scene for years, slingin’ records and throwing parties, he knows what makes people tick and even better what makes people move.
This is premium grade dancefloor tackle, tinged by a whole host of different influences and genres, strung together with that distinctive South London feel.

Pure Warmth is a brand new project from the extremely talented and versatile house producer & DJ Tommy Tickle teaming up with fellow WME agent Matt Smith.

Tommy Tickle has made a name for himself with past releases featured on the likes of BBC Introducing Dance, Capital Dance and Kiss. and whose music has been included on the likes of Spotify's Deep House Relax, UK House Music and New Dance Revolution playlists.

London based production duo Pure Warmth ready the 26th release for Important UK imprint Ad Hoc records, following on from the label's extensive and mind-altering catalog. Ad Hoc was set up in 2017 as a way to celebrate and support music bubbling from the Manchester scene, while combining their world music influences and love for warm rhythms and irresistible grooves. The label, which doubles up as a party, has invited a wide range of guests, always with the aim to support the artists they love through their launch parties and the city’s intimate surroundings.

All of Ad Hoc’s previous releases have an abundance of soul and it’s easy to see why they have enlisted the work of duo Pure Warmth. The record kicks off with title track ‘Kutsu’ - a deep, contemplative journey across six minutes of nocturnal moods and organic rhythms, glued beautifully together by analogue warmth. In an age of three minute tracks, the duo use their knowledge of set building in ‘Something lyrical’, slowly gathering momentum through jazz infused melodies and flora swept atmospherics; the track's vocal sample adding to the classic house aesthetic. ‘Money’ turns things up a notch with a club-friendly approach; its hazy pads are threaded through funk-induced basslines and chords, before the record comes to a close with the irresistible and acid fueled hip-house cut ‘The Shepard’.

PREMIERE: Pure Warmth - Something Lyrical

Now Needwant Records proudly present the latest in their ever-evolving roster showcasing the sounds of underground city life by label newcomer Nate08 and his kaleidoscopic debut album 'Furaha'. The London imprint have been tirelessly advancing dance music's esoteric fringes for well over a decade with their immaculately curated catalogue. The newest recruit to their glittering line-up, is the Mumbai-based musician, producer, and DJ, Nate08 with his breathtaking inaugural album. The producer, session bass player, and genre-spanning selector, Nathan Thomas has become an irrepressible force in India’s blossoming underground music scene.  His solo project, Nate08, treads the groove-oriented territories of funk, r&b, and house with his elegantly spun productions firmly rooted in dance music's glorious heritage, while imbued with a future-facing gloss. 
The title track sets the tone, with Latin guitars gliding over intricate percussion as heavenly chords fill the sun-kissed panorama. Upping the energy, Azamaan Hoyvoy's honeyed vocal enlivens the summer haze of 'Trigger Fool', arriving over evocative chords and a laser tight rhythm to create a stunning slice of low-slung future house deepness. The funk-flecked 'Bunker' sees Nathan's bass mastery arrive in full force, with spirited slaps propelling misty chords and guitar licks across a loose-limbed beat. The captivating chord progressions of 'Hold Up' soar over rolling bass notes and shimmering synths. 'Sunrise Sunfall' is a stunning example of Nate08's organically spun deep house prowess, with Jitwam's soul-drenched vocals cascading over succulent chords and synth melodies as smokey beats and bass cement the heads-down groove. 
The 'Let's Go To Ibar' interlude makes way for the deep house flex of 'Want You', where Megan Murray's vocal provides the hook as acid bass notes bounce over glistening chords and driving beats. A prime example of Nate08’s futurist intentions arrives in the form of r&b-meets-house hybrid 'Feel It', with Lojal's striking performance . The forward-thinking two-step rhythm of 'Cold Muse' sees broken drums drive emotion-heavy chords and guitar licks over bass.  Closing cut 'Primrose' sees the album home with a fitting flourish. Naisha's heartfelt vocal sails across an ocean of classy chords, staccato synths, congas that liven up the groove, and bass that gives body to the celestial instrumentation.

Dekmantel   and   Worldwide   FM-affiliated   DJ   Esa takes  Daymé Arocena's  steady-swaying, lighters-in-the-air   moment   to   more   uptempo   territories.   Propped   up   by   an   ‘80s   drum   machine   bounce,   soft-dappled   synths swirl   around   an   extremely   well-executed   xylophone   melody.   As   a   set   of   remixes,   they   achieve   no   mean   feat:   flipping   a melancholy   ballad   to   an   all-out   party   banger.   On   Eleggua,   Esa   takes   a   more   esoteric   angle   –   a   slow-build,   synths-and-bleeps chugger,   Daymé’s   distinctive   exaltations   are   the   track’s   driving   force.   

This   3-track  12”   is   another   impressive   effort   from   the   South African   DJ   sure   to   feature   heavily   in   clubs   worldwide.
