After last month’s »Busted Moniker« EP from Quarion, Retreat is thrilled to announce a new 12" courtesy of house music’s most energetic duo, the incomparable Session Victim! The aptly titled »Two Man House Band EP« is the lads’ first record since their 2014 magnum Opus »See You When You Get There« and perfectly transcribes the energy that Session Victim pour into their incendiary live show. Tailormade for a night out in the club or a joyous day at the festival, the »Two Man House Band EP« once again prooves that Session Victim are unstoppable in their pursuit of the ultimate groove!

»Summer Games« is an ode to that most festive of seasons and could easily hold the claim of being Retreat’s »biggest« track so far. Built around an Hypnotic organ loop, »SummerGames« completely blurs the lines between house, funk and soul : rolling breakbeats, catchy vocal snippets and a very groovy bassline are the core elements of this anthem that could rock any party. Yet Session Victim add a slight twist in the form of a melancholic string motive that appears in two chiseled breakdowns. It’s a little reminder that summers do not last forever and that one should enjoy them while they last ...

Flip the record in order to dive into the deeper realms of »Black Cream«, a more reflective track for the late hours. With its jazzy (almost broken) beat, guitar licks, rhodes pads, subtle percussion and ethereal vocals, »Black Cream« is the soundtrack to an exciting underwater trip with Matthias and Hauke at the controls. Thanks to the captains’ lively drum programming, the track flows effortlessly and we’re treated with many surprises along the way before a gradual rise brings us back to the surface.

»Finderlohn« is a smokey downtempo workout which finds Session Victim digging deep in their collection to demonstrate their prowess in manipulating samples. Beginning with an instanly classic guitar and piano loop, »Finderlohn« allows a shuffly breakbeat to take center stage, sometimes reinforced with double-time hihats for a more dramatic effect. The tune is definitely a headnodder’s paradise and the listener is taken that little bit higher thanks to a mystical flute solo that concludes »Finderlohn« in a psychedelic way.

A long time operator in Stockholm's small but insistent underground music scene, Art Alfie broke through internationally in 2012 with the Karlovak project, founded with on-off studio and dj partner Rudolf Nordström, a.k.a. Mr. Tophat. The duo's inexplicably fresh takes on classic dance music tropes were as much a result of a brilliantly odd pairing of personalities as of a defined concept and precise method in searching for the perfect house groove.

While writing Reveries Of, released February 2017 through Studio Barnhus, Art Alfie freed himself of all conceptual footholds, delving instead deep into his archives of old and new memories and feels, working with improptu field recordings and emotionally-guided sampling processes. He came back with an intricate and personal debut album and you better believe he didn't lose that groove on his way.

The band began to play loudly in the grand hall. The chamber had been packed for several hours, diners had eaten promptly whilst discussing matters of ethereal importance. The white table cloths now lay scattered messily across the room as the old busy bodies danced repulsively. The band were playing a song for Mr. Lewis, not that many of them knew him very well at all. This was merely a facade, a show of force for a leader whom was actually despised. There was only so much grandeur one could attempt to hide amidst, he was a mess. 

Austin Ato is set to release a new EP on Phonica White in the coming weeks, the producer has travelled under many guises in the past including Drums Of Death, Frankie Dreams and The Slumberjack.

@hubie-davison steps up on @perfectmotionrecords with a new three-track EP titled 'Light & Liquid', arriving on June 15. 

The Irish producer's 2015 gospel-charged house heater 'Sanctified' was a breakout hit, selling out repress after repress and fetching silly money on Discogs in between each. 'Embers' from the new record is another cut drenched in good vibes, fronted with lilting brass tones and choral vocals. It lands right on time for festival season and summer dancefloors.

Jesse Futerman takes to the Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest (SOBO) imprint for the first time to release the 'Waterzone' EP, which features the smooth grooving house ballad of a title track.

Futerman linked with a collection musicians in Beverly Glenn-Copeland on vocals, Chris Edmondson on saxophone and Stacey Shopsowitz on bass to showcase a new side to his artistry with the 'Waterzone' EP. The result is a collection of three tracks that fuse intricate organic arrangements. As a whole, it's an incredibly beautiful release, one primed for a summer dance.

The 'Waterzone' EP is set for release August 24.

Ltd, W/Lbl is a label based out Berlin that specializes in sophisticated, Classical, Jazz and Ethnic oriented electronic music. Since 2017 they have been putting out two vinyl series - one that features re-issues from previously released tracks and another that showcases all newly released work. Today's post involves the latter and includes an original from up and coming artist Alberto De Santiago, better known as Never Dull.

Based out of Los Angeles, Never Dull has been on the scene for only about a year now but has already released work for labels such as Feedasoul, Dansu Discs, and Hopera Records. In his latest effort titled Cool Jazz Boogie, Never Dull manages to pair sultry Spanish vocals along with a groovy assortment of languid synths and gently plucked guitar strings. In that sense, the title of the song is fairly straightforward in describing the vibe it creates and will certainly play well where ever lounging and relaxation is the prerogative.

If Russian producer Anton Bogomolov (aka Scruscru) is not on your radar yet, he will be after listening to his latest offering on Berlin imprint LTDWLBL. Having previously released music on labels such as Minor Notes Recordings, and most recently Nomada out of Colombia, Mr. Bogomolov continues his run of phenomenal releases with a brand new EP titled LTDBLBL005. As the name denotes, this is the 5th record to be put out by LTDWLBL. Up until this point, the label has only produced vinyl featuring tracks from various artists. However, this time around, they have decided to devote an entire 12'' to originals from Scruscru himself - and we could not be more pleased with the decision!

The song we are premiering for our listeners today is the A1 from the release titled "Waka-no-ura Bay." Named after a Japanese heritage site known for its shimmering tidal flats, old stone bridges, and ancient shrines and temples, this track will leave you captivated in a similar vein with its rich textures; colorful arrangments; and crashing melodies. Being a label known for their sophisticated, classical, jazz and ethnic-oriented electronic style, we honestly could not think of a better artist for LTDWLBL to collaborate with on their first, full-length solo feature than Scruscru. If you're like me, hopefully, this will be a paring we will see again in the months and years to come!
