Pegasvs, the moniker by which London-based DJ, Thomas Lesnier, currently operates under, returns with his first track of 2021, “Oscillations (Live Mix)”. This track marks his first since his 2020 Tropical House cut, “Closer to the Sun”, which saw the producer straying from rugged Tech-House for a much sunnier and laid-back sound. 

With “Oscillations”, Lesnier doubles down on this new sonic direction, delivering an epic slow-jam jazz cut with live saxophone and guitar (courtesy of Matt Grenz and James King, respectively). The track feels like a warm, gentle summer breeze, wafting up and immediately putting you in a serene headspace. The track opens with bubbly synths and clinking percussion sticks, which are soon met with a more typical hi-hat pattern and bass-line that subtly builds in tension, culminating in Grenz’s stunning sax solo. The track seems to add on new elements as if it were cruising down a beach-road during sunset and picking up an assortment of hitchhiking friends. There’s an almost symbiotic, utopian feeling that emerges as the track goes on–– nothing feels forced, nor out of place; everything just gels. 

Considering the year we have all had, this track arrives as a balm for our weary spirits. It offers a taste of what we need after a year of crisis and rampant anxiety. The track embodies a kind of back-and-forth, an “oscillation”, if you will, over how music can respond and provide solace to us in times of great distress.

After the success and reaction to 2023's Jazz Room album Colin Curtis Presents: indigo jam unit this time it's Jazz Room Bossman and DJ Legend picking from the catalogue of the Obscure and Magnificent Combo "Copa Salvo" with an eclectic grab bag of tracks from their highly rated (and hard to find!) collection of Vinyl and CD releases. Just one previous UK release on BBE (natch!) track: HASTA LA VICTRIA SIEMPRE which was included  in the renowned and highly respected Jean-Claude Presents: You Need This. A Journey Into Deep Jazz Vol. 3

Exciting things are happening as UK-producer Drum Dance launches his new label, ‘Into The Cosmos’, with a standout four-track release that showcases his eclectic taste and production skills. Among the tracks is the captivating "Venus Dub 2", a must-hear for fans of dub, jazz, and Balearic sounds.

"Venus Dub 2" is an 80s jazz Balearic-inspired track that takes a journey to Kingston for a bass-heavy dub makeover. The resulting track is a lush, atmospheric track with irresistible grooves. Drum Dance's production shines as he expertly balances influences to create a track that's both relaxing and propulsive, making it a perfect addition to any summer playlist.

As for the rest of the EP, the release kicks off with "Zani!", a cosmic head-nodder influenced by both Chicago footwork and Malian music, paying homage to the legendary Zani Diabaté. Following this is "Body Heat", a Latin-flavored boogie number that keeps the energy high with its four-to-the-floor beat, sultry disco vocals, and jazzy keys.

Closing the release is "Adan On Dòt Soley", a personal dedication to the beautiful island of Gwadloup. This track begins with spaced-out synths and evolves into a dubby percussive jam, featuring the enchanting Fender Rhodes keys recorded by Andy Wileman. Field recordings of birds singing, waves lapping, and the sounds of gwo ka drumming on the beach bring the listener to a serene and soulful conclusion.

The EP is released this Friday, on vinyl, pressed by Vinyl Factory and digital. Available directly via Bandcamp, plus Juno, Phonica, Redeye Records, Clone, HHV, Deejay.de, and so on.

Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present the video for their new single ‘Friday Morning’. A song about “jumping into love,” ‘Friday Morning’ skips between laid back Isley Brothers-­esque vibes via delicate tempo changes into gentle hymnal passages.

On 26th January, Khruangbin will release their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ on Night Time Stories. Continuing their world music pedigree, the band has expanded their global influences on this record from Thai funk to sounds of Spain and the Middle East, particularly Iran, from the 1960’s, 1970’s and beyond.  Khruangbin will embark on a tour of UK, Europe and North America in support of ‘Con Todo El Mundo’.

Brought to us by Ziggy Zeitgeist, drummer and percussionist of Melbourne’s outstanding ‘30/70’, the improv/dance music band known as Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange are a gifted creation fitting effortlessly within the nu-jazz neo-soul era. That being said, you’ll come to realise that the genre is secondary to the crafts(wo)manship, it's the energy conveyed by the musicians that means everything. Today we have the pleasure of premiering a track arranged and produced by the band, taken from ‘ZFEX Volume II’, the follow up of the May 2018 release. Ziggy is joined by Matt Hayes on bass and Lewis Moody on the keys, Javier Fredes on percussion, Erica Tucceri on woodwinds to bring us ‘Logan’s Run’ (yes, you may have watched the sci-fi classic). 

This number gathers pace through youthful twinkling keys, low-slung sultry bass, jungle influenced drums and percussion sounding as galactic as it does tribal. Creating pure transcendental soundscapes and grooves of refreshing expression, ZFEX showcase what it means to catch a vibe and if you remain open to their sonic elevation, you are sure to be moved as the music forces you to connect with yourself. ‘Volume II’ is a timeless instantly mesmerizing space you enter, where you are greeted by raw jazz-funk and the spirit of each musician flowing through live sounds. We can’t help but think of Alfa Mist, Mansur Brown, Yussef Dayes, Thundercat, Triforce and Kamaal Williams with this one, so if you’re a fan of those guys be sure to check this out. 

The raw sentimental sounds of ‘Logan’s Run’ form a story, an affair of the heart played out  arresting all our senses through its beautifully frantic sections and calmer rhythmic parts. Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange - Logan's Run

Huw Marc Bennett creates a warm, deep, retro groove, the sound of sun kissed vinyl. He draws on Tim Maia, Augustus Pablo and Idris Muhammed as much as he does the Jazz scene and community he has found in South East London, with a streak of ‘Sain Records’ brand welsh phycyedlia running through the whole thing. 

Tressilian Bay started out as a long lost live session recorded at the  Total Refreshment Centre studios, featuring Chelsea Carmichael (Sax), Rosie Turton (Trombone) Shirley Tetteh (Guitar) Jake long (Drums) with Huw at the helm on bass and compositions. Huw utilised his human style of production and multi instrumentality seen in his project Susso (Soundway Record) as well as the glorious vocal contributions of Miryam Solomon, to mold these recordings in to this mature and emotional debut, with a subtle nod to hedonistic summer nights, whether spent on the glamorgan coast or the hot lewisham streets.

It is our absolute pleasure to release this brand new track from Milano's DayKoda! We're really feeling this one!!

‘My Abstract Monkey’ is the first single selected from the upcoming album by the nu jazz musician and beat maker DayKoda. 

The young producer returns on the scene with a single that, in light of the recent global situation, will rise awareness against animal exploitation and deforestation. In particular, the profits form this single will be entirely donated to the WWF.

In tune with this theme, ‘My Abstract Monkey’ feels hazy and dreamlike; percussive hip-hop cuts, soulful atmospherics and highly skilled woodwind sequences. The track makes you swoon with its smooth and creamy vibe, something relatable to Stones Throw and Brainfeeder artists such as MNDSGN and Teebs. Special credits to the raw talent of the multi-instrumentalist Robohands, who features the track with an
effortless jazzy production.

The sound of this track floods your ears with greenery and
lush soundscapes, aiming at recreate that peaceful connection that used to endure between Human kind and nature.
