Order is my representation of what we imagine our lives can be like if we strive for it's perfectionist traits. It’s joyous, euphoric, feel-good and overall, just a bright and cheerful experience. The tunes for this EP have a dreamy like quality which I think encourages the notion that aspiring for these emotions by living in a way that encompasses Order is just that, a dream. We all strive for happiness, and think that rigidity and Order is the key to attaining it, but there is something to be said about Chaos and it’s place in our daily lives. Order is complacency, and without Chaos, the joyous moments of life are harder to appreciate.

Born out of reflection and a keen observation of life, Blüm is the latest collaboration between artist/producer, Bon-Psy & Singer/Songwriter, Shauni.

Having already released a series of introspective and thought-provoking tracks, Bon-Psy continues chipping away at his unique style to unearth new ways of presenting his sources of inspiration. Shauni returns here fresh off the back of 'Disappear', once again embellishing her R&B infused vocals in a stand out performance. 

Inspired by the life of a flower, Bon-Psy navigates varying emotional states that capture the essence of the journey through existence. Joy, grief, despair, love & hope. Blüm depicts what it is to be alive in movie esque fashion, with singer Shauni providing a poignant narrative that unifies the lifecycle of a flower with our own lives as human beings. 

Blüm is once again a stellar release for these two artists who work in synergy to translate the journey of life into music.

Bon-Psy provides a contrasting take on David Gothams Enter, The Holy Divine (Part I) in spectacular fashion.

Melancholy and dance-friendly are moods that are uncommonly found in the same track, although that is exactly what UK producer Bon-Psy offers us on his interpolation of “Legacy (To Georgi)” – originally by Bulgarian piano whiz Boyan.

The two producers Boyan and Bon-Psy are not only worlds apart when it comes to location, they traverse different realms of genre too as Boyan leans towards soul and jazz-infused chillhop, while Bon-Psy pleasures audiences with forward-thinking electronica.

Through Stereofox Records a connection was established and the result… Bon-Psy transforms the serene and stripped-down composition “Legacy (to Georgi)” by Boyan into an electrifying remix by fleshing it out with glossy electronic textures, while keeping the melancholy of the original. Its Bon-Psy’s garden-fresh sound and his ability to take risks with his music that’s frequently garnered attention, and his “Legacy” (Remix) is yet another example of him pushing the boundaries of his genre.

On his latest release, Bon-Psy promotes empowerment of the mind, or at the very least, the notion that we all have the ability to control our own negative thoughts.

Cursed Life begins in a bleak state of affairs, murky pianos fill the space whilst a poignant commentary details the mental challenges people face in their adolescence. With this, Bon-Psy sets the scene, and provides insight into his own circumstances growing up.

As the track progresses, we are exposed to a variety of moods and styles. Bon-Psy navigates this gloomy world he has manifested, exploring its depths and finding glimmers of hope intertwined with jazz infused Electronica.

The closing stages of Cursed Life suggest a newfound sense of power. The once disheartening commentary now appears imbued with a fighting spirit, suggesting to the listener that they have the power within themselves to control and appease the mental anguish that plagues them.

“Many times in my life I have felt cursed. On my worst days, the mental anguish of just being a human, and the trials and tribulations associated with it feel like too much of a burden to bear. At some point in our lives we are all destined for a degree of extreme hardship, sadness, depression, anxiety, death or despair, and it can appear at times that as humans we really are cursed in that sense. We find ourselves lost in these states, and digging ourselves out of that hole is a task too big and monstrous to even begin contemplating. But Whilst the world can be daunting and cold beyond measure, you as an individual have the facilities and resources to make your life better. You can get yourself out of those states if you do everything within your power to do so. Take control, move towards a better existence, as there’s something to be said, to know that you’re the sort of creature that can look mortality and catastrophe straight in the eye, and nonetheless, stand up.”

To me, this track felt like the musical embodiment of that feeling of relief after a particularly stressful situation is over and the world around you retracts its claws for a few minutes to let you recover. In my own life, I think about the times when I’ve had these situations. Leading up to them, my mind would be in complete chaos thinking about the whole scenario. I likened this to walking on a tightrope above the Grand Canyon whilst life throws rocks at me, trying to knock me off my balance. But, having kept my footing and successfully negotiating it, I would be filled with a wonderful sense of relief. This song is that moment encapsulated, it’s the brief time afterwards where the chaos has subsided for a little while and everything is back in its right place.

‘Ukiyo’ is a term rooted in Japanese history which loosely translates to “Floating World”. This track reflects the joy that can be associated with a period of Order which can be euphoric at times. My aim here was to create a track that represented this, embodying the good feeling of having all your ducks in a row in any area of your life. It can feel like you’re coasting through the day and nothing can go wrong. My thought process behind Ukiyo is that it is that pipe dream of what you envision your life would be like if everything was exactly how you imagined things were going to be. This vision is a floating mirage in the distance, a perfect idea in an imperfect world.

With this EP I wanted to incorporate a lot more of my bass playing as it will be my main instrument when performing live. This track (in my opinion) was my greatest success of incorporating the instrument into these selection of tunes. I showed this track to a few people whilst working on it, and one of the responses I recieved stood out. The individual imagined driving on an empty road at sunset, a beach or coast to their left and forestry to their right with the sunset coating the landscape in a warm orange hue. I called the track “Carte Blanche”, reflecting a sense of freedom I felt from this fitting description.

Bon-Psy & Visco City, two of the most exciting new artists within the Experimental Electronica scene, work together in harmonious fashion on their latest release ‘Serene’. 

Both artists, having seen great success in 2020, effortlessly blend their two unique styles together to create something magical. ‘Serene’ is a rollercoaster, an amalgamation of different styles that they are able to effortlessly weave in and out of. Here they find balance between their approaches, and the result is five minutes of Electronic bliss.

Whilst ‘Serene’ is a standout release on its own, the accompanying Music Video presents further material to be dissected. Each section of the video corresponds to the four total lunar eclipses preceding the extremely rare “Blood Moon”. The alignment of the moon with the sun is a rare occurrence, and much like ‘Serene’ is an experience to be in awe of. Fleeting doves in each section suggest harmony, the rarity of a “Blood Moon” personifies the unlikeliness of two producers flourishing together so well.

Bon-Psy & Visco City kick off 2021 with grace and style, ‘Serene’ is an exciting proposal of what is yet to come.
