Under the spell of one of the most empowering evenings of exchange of music and habibtiness, I recorded this mix out of a melancholic mood that took me back to songs that used to occupy the lebanese TV and radio rotation for months. I dearly thank ArtAsyl for hosting me as one of their many amazing and inspiring guests and I truly appologize for being very late with delivering this mix. We begin with Senegal of course with the Orchester Laye Thiam, born of a temporary schism within the Star Band of Ibra Kasse and led by the trumpeter of the same name, before his departure for Congo where he accompanied it seems James Brown in Kinshasa. Then it's the spellbinding Poly Rhythmo drummer Danialou Sagbohan for a maddening Afro-Cuban Latin track. His friend Gnonnas Pedro, the greatest singer in West Africa (with Ballaké), continues with his combination where the guitar replaces the piano of the descarga, the same goes for the next track, by Sam Mangwana, another golden voice that sang for both Franco and Tabu Ley Rochereau, the two great rivals of Congolese music, for his only album recorded in Portuguese. A tribute to Mozambican emancipation, where he advocates a return to the land, on a heady rumba / soukouss. No wonder when you know that his mother was Angolan! The Portuguese-speaking pole takes us to Cape Verde via Senegal with Mendes, child of the Medina, popular suburb of Dakar, former member of the Cabo Verde Show combo, immensely popular here. We then take the big leap to Cameroon, with funky Bikutsi and Asiko frenzied where the bass is unleashed on tribal rhythms to die for. We conclude with a jump to Ghana, the vocal harmonies of Thomas Frimpong and the guitars of Eric Agyemang bewitch this highlife highclass.

Plus for the final part he's joined by filmmaker Pablo Aravena the director of the forthcoming Chile Estyle about street art and grafitti in Chile and they play tracks from the soundtrack made by Chilean producer DJ Raff.
