May 2020 sees Gianluca Pegoiani drop his Visionquest debut in the form of the "Fifth Room EP".  Pegoiani has been collecting records, analog machines and hitting the clubs since the mid 90's, taking inspiration from the greats like Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin and Derrick May.  He has lived all over the world and has worked as a promoter at Mazoom / Le Plaisir, Vice and Blok in Brescia, Italy.  In addition to collaborating with duo Polydrum for Skream's "Of Unsound Mind" label he has also produced releases for NGtrax and Rebirth Records.

The Fifth Room EP comes in hot with the fast paced A1, "One Room". Filling the space with rising and falling rhythmic sounds secured by a fat kick. Ethereal, almost choral pads emerge that give way to a skittery, chopped up vocal. In the second half of the track, the gate on the vocal opens up and the sound fills up with even more drenched pads.

For the A2, Berlin staple and fellow Italian DJ and producer Hubble checks in with his take on "One Room". The remix enters with methodical kicks and shifting bass tones, as seemingly 'found sound' percussion scrapes through the dense bass. The vocal peers in from a distance as the back half of the track undulates between bass tones, vocal and metallic percussion.

On the B2, "One Key", begins with reversed strings where u can almost hear the bow sliding back and forth. An indistinguishable vocal loop brings the listener back into the kick/snare and ricocheting percussion hits that bounce around the spectrum. New reversed strings jump in giving a nostalgia drenched Mediterranean vibe that somehow brings a tense energy. The tension continues to build until the end, leaving the listener excited and in anticipation for the the artists next offering.

Following his beautiful ‘Detroit Sunrise’ EP on the label last year, the inimitable Sascha Dive returns to Bondage Music once again for another deep frequency encounter.

The safe word is bass as Sascha picks up where he left us with two ‘Dub Chronicles’ tracks on the previous release. Now comes the third; a lavish, unhurried exploration ‘Dub Chronicles 3’ lights the fire with hazy, hypnotic charm and a spoken word well known to those familiar with the foundations.

What follows is a trip that grows in intensity and emotions. ‘Cornerstone’ is a beautiful 11pm track; fleet of foot in the kick department and arms aloft in the vibe department. Total elevation. ‘Ancient Tribal Drums’, meanwhile, takes us much deeper into the night. That rolling conga line will tie you up just the way Bondage likes it while the dubby echoes provide sense-tingling relief… Before the finale takes us to even dreamier heights. Living up to its name, ‘It’s A Groove’ brings the elements of the whole EP together; the dubby hypnosis, the warm, driving beats and that unique sense that you’re not quite tied into any reality while Sascha plays. 'Celebrating his 25th year as a producer and DJ, London’s Silverlining announces his first ever double-vinyl artist album, ‘Simulacra’, a brand new collection of emotive yet powerful body music from his South London studio. Known for his diverse and bassline-driven grooves, this work sees him straddle between the stripped-back house and techno that we have come to adore on his acclaimed Silverlining Dubs series, with eclectic forays into territories of electronic musicality unexplored by him until now. Adopting a similar analogue workflow and kit-list to that used for his 1990s productions, the collection retains his trademark sonic brilliance, whilst demonstrating, once again, that his ideas are far from running out.
 

Subtly interwoven into its mood and lyrics, the album explores themes of dependence on misrecognised digital identities, and the importance of real world tangibility. Adopting Jean Baudrillard’s definition of the word ‘simulacra’ — “the generation by models of a real without origin or reality” — the tracks and vinyl have been given abstracted nomenclature to allow for the listener to infer their own meanings and order of play. “We’re in the midst of a turning point”, Silverlining states, “where nearness and authenticity are more valuable than ever before. Given recent events, real life collectivities are going to play a crucial role in maintaining this.” For the album’s artwork, Silverlining has collaborated with celebrated print-making  artist, Leonie Bradley, whose work explores similar themes.
 

The album opens with ‘Contracultura’, a 12-minute genre-bending journey of two halves. Making an unlikely flip from electro tenacity to warm deep house, the track’s distinctive bassline arrangement underpins a haunting Vocoder mantra to countercultures. Next up, ‘Aura’ shimmers with Detroit inspired keys and a feverish vocal sample. The crystalline and infectious house groove of ‘Fulcra’ is laced with dreamy synths for the early hours. The second disc launches with a hop, skip and jump on ‘Schema’, where an old school organ-bass drives the track towards flanged atmospheric keys that culminate in pure vibe. ‘Observa’ delves into hazy, dub laden abstraction, with its low swung breaks that wander beneath slick spoken word vocals from Miami’s Ntem (Soulclap). On ‘Tundra’, Silverlining calls on vocalist, Saba, for an old school, acid drenched and impassioned Chicago groove that meanders with sheer class in the spirit of bygone halcyon days. Closing out with panache is, ‘Recognitia’, a flashback to the feel-good golden age of 90s hip hop, featuring Ntem & Saba who both bring a unique flavour to the record with their duet.
 

This versatile collection of new music from Silverlining caters both for tasteful record collectors, and deeper DJs alike, with its extensive yet consistent spectrum of flavours. Shortly after this package of solo work, Silverlining will also be delivering a collaborations compilation of reissues from his illustrious past via Dutch imprint, Ninih, and includes sought after tracks from projects such as Two Right Wrongans, Impossible Beings, Appleheadz, and Southern Comforters.'
