After a string of acclaimed releases on Token and a selection of remixes, Ø [Phase] released his debut album 'Frames Of Reference' on Token last fall. It earned him outstanding reviews at Resident Advisor ("a display of real power and finesse" 4/5), in DJmag ("a calculated masterpiece" 9,5/10), at XLR8R ("sticks out as an alternate route to the heart of machine music's appeal" 8/10), Groove Magazine ("pulsating techno in which every sonic details fits") and more.

Following the first single “On The Edge / Perplexed” & the second single “Dirtro II” (including the stellar ‘New Device Remix’ by Robert Hood), we now present you the last segment of the series with 2 remixes. On the A-side Rødhåd delivers an epic 10 minute interpretation of the first single ‘Perplexed’, while Robert Hood delivers a second, more minimalistic take on “Dirtro II” for the flip.

matHame is a portmanteau composed of two central factors - brothers to be precise - Amedeo and Matteo Giovanelli, who together form the Italian production duo.

For the past two years the pair have joined forces as Mathame, whose conceptual core is research. This research, for now, centres around religious and medieval iconography. An Icon is a flat panel painting depicting Jesus Christ, Mary, saints and/or angels which can be cast in metal, carved in stone, embroidered on cloth, painted on wood, done in mosaic or fresco work, printed on paper or metal, or multiple other mediums. The duos chosen medium? Music.

They work with the same artistic zeal as the monks manufactured Icons, refining the methods and procedures particular to the trade, and maps those approaches on to their music.

As Western civilization faces destabilization within the realms of politics and social culture, deep reflection must come from within those pillars of what we take for granted. The composition of tracks comes after a process involving first the body and matter. They use only hardware - a self-built modular synthesizer (called AERIAL) - to produce and record each track. Everything is finalized onto tapes to maintain the analogue chain, then transferred to digital DAW only to share with you.

Their brand new work, Evangea EP, is yet another attempt to produce one of these "sonic icons". Their work here is not a devotional-religious craft, but a search within one of the central pillars of Western culture, a search within themselves, and ultimately a search within itself, which you are humbly invited to discover. 




Mathame -Amen ( Matthias Meyer Regrooved Mix )

When I first discovered Donato Dozzy’s early records around 2006, I was immediately captured by the warm and hypnotic feel of his music. From that moment on, I’ve been a big fan of Dozzy’s work, over the years, collecting more and more of his music - from the solo projects and remixes to his well-known collaborations with other great artists. At some point the idea occurred to me: why not paying homage to this great artist in form of a tribute mix? It took me quite a while to bring the idea into reality, but now here it is. During the process of selecting the tracks for the mix, I got the feeling I wanted to create something more geared toward home listening or a walk around the city with headphones. For this reason, I slowed things down a bit and kept the whole mix under 120 bpm.

Phonatic - Dozzy Dives Under 120

Last year I met Sissi Rada. She was singing in Greek and playing the harp when I first listened to her. 
I asked her to record something with me as I wanted to use her voice for my music. We sat down, I played the harmonies on my Prophet 5 and she would jam over it. Her first take is the take you're listening to. Back then I was in my bedroom studio. We had noises from the street, roommates the next door, but the take captured the magic and the spontaneous moment of just doing music. I didn't want to record it again. 

Her lyrics are about the devastating political and financial situation in Greece and I tried - as much as I could do - to reflect that with my music.
