we spend the night in a hotel room with three other people. the drugs still have a light hold on me and reality is vague and lucid. the air is soft, glowing and tingling and we share a cigarette out on the balcony sometime around four a.m and  somehow the blanket ends up hanging over the balcony rail and i think, as you and ana's sister make small talk, that so much is missed in these small hours. but i keep it to myself and light another cigarette as you two drift back inside and i stay surrounded by the cold morning air and watch the world slowly spin until the dying streetlight in the parking lot across the street begins to flicker and it proves to ensure my restless thoughts to stir and get the best of me.

back inside the conversations continue and i present myself as part of them, i remember the hazy moments of distraction and lack of self control when i would catch my eyes wandering back to you but i'd brush it off and try to settle the bitter shivers in my veins. and eventually the chemicals wear off and joey's coke connect doesn't come through so i end up next to you on a bed in a hotel room permeated with the sweet smell of marijuana and you say, with your eyes resting soft on mine, "tell me a secret,"



and eventually you fell asleep next to me and i watched as the sunlight came through the blinds and found it's way to your skin, warming lines in thin intervals down your body, and you don't know but in your sleep you whispered "where are you" and i slid my hand under yours and you turned towards me in the slightest way and kept your fingers interlocked with mine until the chemicals got the best of me and i went outside for another cigarette. 

something was troubling you in your sleep, and it may not be me you were whispering to but i was there and i was saw cause to comfort your soul and that is enough for me.
