PERCHED UP || SOUL / DOWNTEMPO / HIP-HOP DJ MIX

Hey fam, much love. Happy to release my first Breakbeat DJ Mix :) It was strange in that it came so naturally even though I'm brand spankin' new with explorin' this genre. Given that I started break dancing and Emcee'ing since 10-12 years old, it kinda makes sense. These are some fun producers. 

I added Jim Carrey Ace Ventura samples throughout, did some really weird & super-challenging tempo shifts, and named it "Breaks Ventura". The flow felt right.

Big love to these talented producers who spent countless hours mastering their craft to create these beautiful pieces of art. Please show support and buy their tracks!

I wanted to keep goin but had to stop it around 1:22 cause I had some shit to handle ;)

Also to add: It's hella funny, I go out of my way to make sure I don't mix in a certain producer more then once or twice to have diversity, but I'm still getting used to moving from DJ'ing with Ableton to my DDJ-RX3, so I promise I was trying my best to look at the names on the menu/screen and I turns out I haven't figured it out yet enough, cause I played way too many of certain producers lol. But I guess that's a good thing, check their music, they are amazing :). This was a freestyle

BREAKS VENTURA || Breakbeats Mix

This is a special b-day gift mix for y'all. Much love to my Libra fam ;).. Took 3 tries to record this perfect. 3rd take is the charm.

Concept: 2nd Volume of 'Trailer Hugs', but now that I live in a Cottage I named it 'Cottage Hugz Vol. 1'. 

As a back story, I lived / traveled in a travel trailer for 7 out of the 12+ years working music festival & event production. It was quite the journey. I built a robust solar energy system, so I would often charge up with the sun and wonder to some beautiful wild & free BLM or dispersed Ca camping spots, and chill by myself and work on music in nature. 

This was what I did in between festivals, working like 13 events a year. With some studio monitors and a 250 amp hr battery bank, I could make music until the sun came up.

The 'UNRELEASED' track I threw in @ around 8:50 was featuring my homegirl Sara Aboulafia, who is a dope ass musician that was living in a 6 x 12 Cargo trailer in our driveway, while our homie (RIP) Ben Runnels was livin in our garage doin his Techno thang. He later unfortunately succumbed to the Ghost ship fire. Love you my dude.

I wrote 'Trailer Hugz Vol 1' in my trailer camped out at a beautiful spot in the sierras, right along a river. This mix 'Cottage Hugz Vol 1' was recorded right here in Oakland. 

I feel I kept the 'Trailer Hugz' vibe alive but added a new twist with this new mix

There is a story behind this title. Once upon a time in Taiwan:

I had just arrived to this beautiful place which was to be my home for an undetermined amount of time. I walk out in the back yard and see an 8' Snake skin shed, likely a Rat Snake. 

The entire time there I was curious and wanted to see this snake, so I made a wish that it would be rad to see this snake but in a safe way. The day before I was departing the island, I asked for the snake to come to me. 

I go and look out the window and I see it. It slithered up to the window, raised it's head about 2', and looked me in the eyes for about a minute. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

A tribute to Mitch Hedberg, a comedy genius who left the physical planet a bit too early. But he is still with us always in spirit & soul ;). Thank you for your contributions Mitch. The theme of this mix is diving deep with laughter, cause if we can find humor in the chaos in our lives, we can transcend the madness.

I recorded this mix while living in my trailer for 7 years. I found a super-cool BLM land spot in the sierras where I could perch up for a few days and chill in between festival production events. I ended up finding a perfect free spot 30' from a river with tons of sunshine to charge my solar panels. I dipped in the river and recorded this around 6pm as the sun was setting. After each transition mix I would step out of my trailer for a sec and bask in the beauty of the forest and smoke a spliff. All the power to make this mix was sun-generated :)
