Allergy Season celebrates 10 years of genre-agnostic music with Hypersensitivity: A Decade of Allergy Season. The compilation and continuous mix feature a wide range of artists associated with the label, and includes some of the most popular tunes in its history and several formerly Bandcamp-only fan favorites. A note from label founder Physical Therapy: 
 
“10 years ago, I started Allergy Season out of frustration. As a prolific producer putting out stylistically varied music, I had already released on at least 15 labels. None felt reflective of the approach that I took to electronic music, and none felt reflective of the scene in New York that I had come up in. 
 
In the late-aughts and early twenty-teens, while Europe and the UK were still focused on separate rooms or club nights for House, Techno, or “Bass” — the scene in NYC was based purely on Fun (with a capital “F”). New York nightlife was finally coming back after barely maintaining a pulse through the Giuliani-era crackdowns that shuttered most venues. Most of the serious electronic music parties that had managed to survive were recovering from pivoting to the fartier end of the Minimal spectrum or Electroclash.
 
In that environment, the way to get bodies through the door and people dancing wasn’t through advertising what genre the music was going to be, — it was simply by throwing the best and craziest parties possible. I don’t remember anyone asking me, “What’s the music going to be like?” for the first 3 or 4 years that I threw parties. People cared about the music, but they didn’t need to be primed on what specifically it was going to sound like, just that it was going to be good.
 
So, as simple as it sounds, I set out to create a label that only cared if the music was “Good” and “Fun.” Before consumers had completely given themselves over to streaming, and before the rise of nimble Bandcamp-only labels, it was quite difficult to get digitally released music taken seriously. It’s hard to imagine, but the music press was still the main path to getting music heard widely. All the while, the best music could only be found in ephemeral spaces like Soundcloud or Mediafire links on blogs. Grab the 128kbp MP3 while you can because it might be gone tomorrow…
 
Reflecting on the past decade — so much that I had wished for New York’s electronic music scene has come true. The city’s scene is more vibrant than any European city; the barriers for releasing great music and finding an audience have vanished. Sometimes I miss those earlier unvarnished days, but I’m grateful to have seen everything that has happened since, to have made whatever tiny contribution I could, to have provided a platform for artists to do what they want.
 
What’s left to do for Allergy Season in the next 10 years? The same thing over and over, hopefully better and better. Now that audiences have expanded there’s lots of room for genre obsession and redefinition – niches hardly exist in a world of instantaneous and unlimited access. I will keep making too much music and loving too much music, keep putting out the things that excite me, and keep having Fun. See you back here in 2034 ;)”
