Hot on the heels of their new "Whiskey Ginger EP' on Razor-N-Tape, the Fouk boys turn us out with just over an hour of swirling synth and driving organic grooves. You can catch them with us in NYC on Thursday August 18th in the Panther Room @ Output for the Cache party, but we'll update you more on that soon. In the meantime, enjoy the Fouk-in mix!

Roll up, roll up, this one is worth some attention. Martyn Lester is a man of mystery, a throwback character with a penchant for retro synths and the energy of youth. Drawing upon inspiration from the days of Italo and the early days of Ibiza he has hand crafted a sound which is far beyond his own assumption. Appearances on Ruf Kutz, Blip Discs and in the coming weeks Ransom Note Records play testament to his taste and style in the form of a remix of Ivan Smagghe and Rupert Cross aka Smagghe and Cross's Talking To Katz EP. I mean, why else would we sign him?

As a disc jockey Glowing Palms is diverse and entertaining, as much about the Saturday night soundtrack as the vintage mixtape. A true selector in the most humble of senses.

After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series last year, we couldn’t resist continuing it with artists from this year’s line-up. In the next couple of months, we will release 5 podcasts by some of our favourite artists. This year’s podcast theme is all about ‘another side of me’, wherein the artists show another side of theirselves.

Following up A Good Christian’s stunning podcast from two weeks ago is DJ Okapi (Dave Durbach). The South-African DJ and selector is known for running his Afrosynth-blog and playing fantastic collection of African flavored music all over the world. His performance at Dekmantel Selectors in August marks his debut on Dekmantel-grounds, so we are honoured to have an amazing warm-up with his contribution to our series.

With his Selectors Podcast for us, Dave shows another side of himself by playing none African tracks only. "These days I can get away with playing only South African music, but I used to be focused more on American music. Here’s a selection of tracks that complement the Afrosynth sound but are all from outside Africa, from remote and exotic corners of the world like the USA and UK, by artists like Aurra, Ashford & Simpson, Marcus Miller, Bernard Wright, Alphonse Mouzon, Rock Steady Crew and The Rose Brothers. Hope you enjoy it.”

The first edition of the Medicine Radio Show features some old and new Funk and Soul treasures - all mixed by J Rocc - legendary turntablist and founding member of the World Famous Beat Junkies. From the celebrated American Jazz and Rock fusion band Stark Reality to the raw German Afro-Funk group The Whitefield Brothers, and the sixties student group Kashmere Stage Band which became famous after been sampled by Handsome Boy Modeling School and DJ Shadow: the man from Southern California digged deep in his record case and prepared a thrilling mix that grooves with an organic party starting flow.

Carhartt WIP Radio October 2012: J Rocc - Medicine Radio Show Pt. 1

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, the iconic record label launched in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy Jr., Carhartt WIP will release a thirteen-piece capsule collection in the coming weeks. The collaboration honors a label that reshaped the sound of American pop music, diversifying its airwaves in the process. 

To mark the collection launch, we reached out to Detroit native Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann and asked him to prepare a strictly Motown music Carhartt WIP Radio show, that displays his personal love for the label.
 
As Moodymann is not man for hasty reactions, he delivered a detailed mix featuring rare b-sides, interviews and live recordings by Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Wonder, Kem and Dazz Band. Asked about his very own feelings towards his mix, Kenny Dixon Jr. simply says: “No matter where I‘m standing it’s good to hear home sometimes. These songs are woven into the soundtrack of my own personal movie.”  There is nothing more to add, only: enjoy the ride!

Hailing all the way from Brooklyn New York, JKriv is a DJ and producer, an excellent musician of many instruments and the co-founding guitarist of the band Escort, a major player of the esteemed Razor-N-Tape record label and of course a man in possession of an impressive vinyl collection.

'Make It Hot’, has been a long held favourite of the Bside Crew, a deep and groovy production with a pure disco energy that can get any party started.

But it doesn’t end there, JKriv has a huge array of disco edits, original tracks, and cutting edge releases on his Brooklyn based label - trend setting and boundary pushing in almost every facet of the industry. His tracks feature in the sets of some of the biggest names in the game, Derrick Carter, Louie Vega, Mark Farina, Greg Wilson and the late great Andrew Weatherall. He himself has been sharing his own collection and good vibes with dance floors the world over, and sharing line-ups with some equally impressive names.

This episode of Bside is a delectable dose of the good times from an artist at the pinnacle of modern disco. 

Expect funk, expect soul, expect passion, expect heads to bop, expect every good reason to break into a little 2-step.
