Passages is a series of simple, heartfelt solo piano meditations written before and after the lockdown year of 2020. Written and recorded on a variety of keyboard instruments: acoustic, electric, virtual, and prepared - then mixed with electronics and ambience. Some of these pieces have been used in various media in the past and some are heard here for the first time. Contemplative and ethereal ruminations for our complex times.

Gycklarmusik (Joker Music)

Dessa fem satser är en del av en längre cykel som kallas Gycklarmusik. Nr 1-4 är för solo violin och nr 10 är under arbete. Tanken är att det skall finnas en rödtråd genom hela cykeln samtidigt som man kan framföra de korta och kärnfulla satserna oberoende av varandra, då instrumentationen ändras. Jag försöker i Gycklarmusik skapa skarpa kontraster och hög spänning med relativt enkla medel och försöker leka med lyssnarens förväntningar på ett underhållande sätt.

Gycklarmusik 5-9 framfördes i London av ensemble CHROMA den 18 februari 2015.

Girls Like Me

Intimate textures and reflections of a solo piano, both in an solitary setting as well as hopeful and inspiring melodies bathed in simple, distant ambient backgrounds. The collection features the nostaligc empathy of a simple chords, such as in "Wildflower," to a drifting, faraway clarion piano progression, "Ambient Piano Dream," that recalls the floating harmonies of Debussy.

Boris Skalsky is a musician, composer, and songwriter releasing and writing music through a number of projects. His work ranges from the quiet folk of solo acoustic releases, ambient rock of bands Dead Heart Bloom and Phaser, contemporary classical instrumental works, experimental electronics of the synth collective Tiger Mountain, and production music. He was also a member and bassist of Skysaw, Jimmy Chamberlin's post Smashing Pumpkins band. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Boris has written and performed for the concert stage. Premieres and recordings include three string quartets, art songs, piano works, and orchestral works. His music has been featured in both television and film, including the score for the recent award winning documentary Fading Portraits.
