But I didn’t know what would make him fall.

There was a switch, there was a hum.
And then the scream broke through my numb.

He screamed like a man, not a machine,
Cried out like blood still ran between.
Metal groaned, but the voice was real,
A sound no circuit’s meant to feel.
I pulled the cord, I made it hurt,
Thought it was wires, not a soul in dirt.
But I heard his pain, I knew that sound

He kept asking, “What the hell’s going on?”
Didn’t see the body he’d become.
Said his ID, said his name,
Didn’t know he’d lost the game.
I thought: “He’s just a voice in steel”,
But he cried out like it all was real.
Not code, not noise, not just design,
But agony, confused and blind.
