Pete Blaker has been making head-turning (or rather head-nodding) moves of late and he continues his run of form on the excellently named Funkyjaws Music label. This fourth instalment in the Discolifting series kicks off with 'Zulu', a nice fat-bottomed and dubby Afro disco sound with a super sweet vocal and some funky guitar riffs. 'Instrumental' then steps out with more widescreen synths and snappy low ends with more than a hint of 'Bakerman' groove goodness. 'See The Light' is lavish and bright disco with 80s synths and 'Heaven' closes with a more subdued and introspective sound.

Bogotá-based duo Rush City (Jonahlo & Joint4Nine), co-founders of
Ritmo Terco, return with their second vinyl release on the label — a
four-track EP of inspired reworks spanning boogie, Italo disco, deep
house, and electro.
Each cut pays homage to a classic or obscure source, reconstructed with
Rush City’s trademark analog warmth and sharp club sensibility. From
the reimagined 1984 Surface jam “When Your Ex Wants You Back”
— driven by 808s and acid lines — to the dubbed-out disco sleaze of
“Brown Sugar”, the A-side brings the funk with a modern twist.
Flip it over for a hypnotic, acid-tinged take on Dream 2 Science’s “My
Love Turns to Liquid”, and an electrified rework of Magazine 60’s
Italo anthem “Don Quichotte”, featuring re-recorded vocals and updated
synths.
An essential EP for selectors who love genre-bending, era-spanning edits

NEW SERIES - GINO EDITS. Soul Clap Records introduces the next series of our exclusive edits only for subscribers to our $10 month Bandcamp service. This series of dynamic sounding, fully mastered and thoughtful edits comes from Detroit’s Gino (@ginoisland) who has a long history with Soul Clap, having first met Charlie and Eli at the Electric Forest in 2013, and becoming their first intern. Gino selected songs across all genres to rework for Soul Clap Records and YOU including recognizable early 00s indie pop hits, 70s AM radio classics, R&B / hip hop anthems, with some soul and funk. Each "Gino Edit" in the series chugs, shakes, and moves with beefy drum programming, precise musical rearrangements, and the powerful but sparing use of additional instrumentation. These edits are more than just DJ tools, they are reflections of Gino’s deep appreciation for bringing all kinds of music together for dancefloor enjoyment. We start today with the dreamy “It’s Automatic” which seems as ethereal as the original until you start to swing to the shuffle of Gino’s knocking drums. 

You can find Gino in Detroit since 2017 where he first made an impression at the storied venue TV Lounge at the time he became one of the club’s youngest residents, taken under the wing of former head honcho Mister Joshooa. His party and label Snack Time, started as a happy hour in 2018 serving home cooked food and featuring local legends on each weekly lineup.

It's Automatic (Edit)

This deep-digging compilation from Italian label Right Tempo offers a lovingly remastered sweep through jazz-inflected house from the decade between 1995 and 2005-a period where groove, musicianship and warmth reigned. The Daft Punk remix of I:Cube's 'Disco Cubizm' is an obvious highlight: clipped funk licks under elastic synths, reshaped with robotic swagger. The original mix rides smoother, more submerged. Josma's 'Voices Of Los Angeles' shimmers with Rhodes flourishes and disco flickers, while Mondo Grosso's 'Souffle H' (King Street Extended Club Mix) drives forward with crisp drums and brushed keys. Cricco Castelli's 'Life Is Changing' appears in two versions-both tightly arranged, with swung jazz-funk energy. Jo Boyer's 'Isabelle And The Rain', given a heady edit by Da Funkie Junkie & Cosmic Girl, closes the set with downtempo sparkle. Elegant, playable, and reissued with care.
