Dennis Bovell: Aye Go Mila Dubwize. One of the most revered dub and reggae producers, Dennis has been making his mark on contemporary music for over 40 years. Born in Barbados, Bovell moved to south London at the age of 12 and became deeply immersed in the emerging roots, lovers rock and soundsystem cultures. He spearheaded seminal British reggae acts like Linton Kwesi Johnson and Matumbi and was also notably involved in the late 70’s post-punk scene as producer for The Slits, The Pop Group and Orange Juice. In 2012, Dennis released the dub collection Mek It Run.

Samba Toure: Aye Go Mila (Album: “Albala” / May 2013). Samba is a legend of northern Malian music. As a member of the touring ensembles for both Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate, Samba gained musical experience and perspective that he brought together famously on his acclaimed third album Albala. A meditation on Mali’s humanitarian and political crisis, Folk Roots wrote that Albala “is a record full of passion, eloquence and incredible music.”


It can’t be much of a surprise that Glitterbeat would eventually assemble a collection of dubs and versions of songs by our artists. Our very first release in the spring of 2013 was a 500-piece limited edition 12” where two tracks from the Malian Afro-rock newcomer Ben Zabo were given an inspired dub treatment by legendary Berlin producer Mark Ernestus (Rhythm & Sound, Jeri Jeri). Those two tracks are included here as well as eight other reinterpretations from our growing catalog.

Having had the privilege of working with each of the Malian artists remixed for this album (Tamikrest, Ben Zabo, Samba Toure, Aminata Wassidje Traore & Lobi Traore) we can safely say that this project will not seem as strange to them as one might assume. In contemporary Malian music, reggae plays a fundamental role and nearly every electric based band we have encountered in Bamako and beyond incorporates at least some reggae elements into their sound. Also the rapid, ubiquitous rise of Hip Hop in Mali has brought samples, remixes and programming into the direct orbit of the country’s urban musicians. And in the dusty, open lots of Bamako’s sprawling neighborhoods, the music that one most frequently encounters being performed is Balani, a sort of Malian variant of dancehall, where laptop electronic beats and declamatory “toasting” are combined with samples of balafons and other traditional instruments. Balani is by definition a remix-generated music.

Bringing together the different mixers with the songs of the original artists was an exciting process. Our choices of who to invite rose intuitively out our record collections and our personal networks and almost every mixer that we approached thankfully accepted the invitation. 

Mark Ernestus was asked to fashion our original 12” not only because of our deep love for his work with the abstract dub duo Rhythm & Sound but also because of his albums in collaboration with Jeri Jeri, the Senegalese sabar group. Dubmaster Dennis Bovell’s work with Linton Kwesi Johnson, The Pop Group and Orange Juice has been a big part of our personal soundtracks for more than thirty years. His recent dub album, Mek It Run, is a killer. We were introduced to the South African Nozinja via his infectious Shangaan Electro productions. Honest Jons released an excellent remix album (Shangaan Shake) of his tracks and we thought it fitting that he join our remix dialogue. We stumbled upon the British-Ghanaian performance, visual and musical artist Larry Achiampong’s self-released LP More Mogya and were excited by its mashup of palm wine and high life samples with Hip Hop beats. We have been fans of Mark Stewart all the way back to his days in the seminal post-punk band The Pop Group, but it was his recent dub album Exorcism of Envy that really caught our collective ear. The intricate afro-techno of Harmonius Thelonious is by definition a sort of West African music remix project, and he seemed a perfect choice to invite. Rounding off the list of mixers is our old friend Dirk Dresselhaus AKA Schneider TM whose wide-open musical obsessions have embraced indie rock, analog electronics, improvisation and field recordings. He recently journeyed to Mali and Burkina Faso to study balafon music. 

With the finished master of this album right now echoing from our speakers we are already thinking about Glitterbeat: Dubs & Versions volume II. Can’t wait.

The long awaited release from the man behind the label is now true! Timewarp inc returns with a killer new release under the name: Tropicaliente EP. 

Travel your mind, your body and your soul into the exotic places that Timewarp a.k.a Angelos Stoumpos tried to bring in life through his music. The recipe is simple; all three tracks on the EP are under a common root, thats the Dub, the growing plant births the first twigs, yes thats the funk, and finally we can see the leaves; well yes thats the tropical mood, colorful, happy, sweet, alive and organic! Many great artists participating in this brand new release. 

Half French and half Greek Georges Perin appears on the opening Tropicaliente track with his magical English / French joyful oh mama vocals, the lyrics were written with his partner Panagiotis Skraparlis. In this song Al The X-King is responsible for the great performing with his Ukelele. While 7x Greek DMC champion, world finalist legend Sparky T gave his great talented skills, he scratched a few special elements on the track. The rising little star Timewarp Junior appears on the track with his little sweet voice, learning the real word! An instrumental version of the track is also included on the release. 

Reggae on Dope is the next stop. Timewarp tried to give a different breath to his music, approaching reggae & funk with a tropical-mediterranean touch. The result is an amazing non-ordinary track. With his silver flute, Tasos Fotiou is the man behind this great performance. He played precisely the theme melody as Timewarp cached it first on the keyboards, but in the end he gave an extra solo performance with a unique character. Al The X-King is responsible for the great Cuban like chords and the smoked dub and reggae muted guitar riffs. At last Mister Kentro performed the accordion melody line as it was written from Timewarp on the keyboards. Well, thats a dope track indeed! 

Dub in Disco is next, and as the title states it, here you can expect some disco style, slow & down-tempo but yet full groovy with a tropical dub style. Tasos Fotiou participated by providing his great style with a heavy sax section theme score build up. Al The X-King did his thing once again with his dub and reggae style vibes all over the track with his great guitar riffs. The result is a floating dance track, with big dub disco beats and grooves.

After a long time in the waiting line, we are thrilled to present the fourth full length album from Timewarp inc. Yes indeed, this time on wax with a limited 250 copies double 12" black vinyl edition, packaged on a heavy duty gatefold. Yes we are proud to say that this is our third vinyl release to date. Theory of Revolution is a strong album release, bringing 19 freshly produced tracks. A few of them where previous released on singles and ep's and only on the digital domain format though the past years, most of them gained great success & big attention, with many playlists from dj's and radio stations all over the world.

Timewarp inc (aka Angelos Timewarp Stoumpos) managed to provide many new tracks, along the already released ones, while he also managed to remaster them and tried to give a fresh breath to his "old gold" tracks that are still hot and playable out there. 

You can expect a wide range of styles and tempos in this album, from dub and reggae to funk and disco, downtempo to house, and from soul to tropical electronica, all produced and based on wide range and borderless music concept, surrounded by some well cooked mediterranean characteristics. All blended with his unique style of producing, mixing and mastering at his "audiophile analogue studio" in Athens. 

Featuring artists gave their touch on the album songs. Georges Perin contributes on four songs: Theory of Revolution, I'll Be Ok, Realistic (yes, here he also plays the harmonica) and on Tropicaliente with his great talented voice and unbeatable vocals. Jammaroots contributes on Restart and she provides a wonderful and anti-political riddim jam with her great vocal skills. Gobey contributes on Liberty is Our Destiny with his riddim and everything sparkles out the good vibes, while RSN gives a few delicious scratches. The Mage provides his story telling on Economic Boom by bringing his warm trip-hop vocals while Beatride plays the hammond hook. Fanis Karoussos brought his talent over Smoke Miash with his amazing anatolian Santur and his master playing skills. Also we have two remastered versions especially for this vinyl album release. Emma Anagnostou participates on Afrofunk with her etherial soul, funk vocal while George T. provides the warm baseline. Salomi Vasileiadou contributes with her amazing performance vocals on the song Yuil Disco Breaks while Dj Tzinas carries the trumpet hooks. Multi instrumentalist George Mitsikaris performs with his Sitar, Tabla and Bansuri Flute on the track Dubwarp. Timewarp Junior (Morpheus) takes the microphone for the first time and he shoots a few words over Tropicaliente. While the seven times DMC champion Sparky T. bring his turntables and scratching skills over four tracks. Alex Ioannou aka Alex The X-King the most wanted main performers on the album provides his great guitars melodies, hooks and riffs on the most album songs but he also brings out a few base lines and the sweet tropical Yukelele sound. Tasos Fotiou appears on Dub in Disco with his sax section, on Reggae on Dope with his silver flute and again with his sax over Yuil Disco Breaks. Niles Philips lents his huge beats for the new version of Bullshit. Nikos BJ and Fanis P. contributes on tracks Afrofunk and Soulfiction with their guitars.
