Blew Velvet is a musician and performer based in Brooklyn NY, with a penchant for the darker, gayer side of dance and club music throughout history. Experiemmtning in selections of gay underground pop and synth-oriented music, this mix for Deep South focuses on an ecclectic cast of dance music from innovators of Italo Disco while checking the notes from an era where club music had a Hi-NRG tint laid over the amorphous queer atmosphere. 
It's dark and fun and horny and so am I.

Rumors Mix Series #099: Delilah At Night

I conceived of the idea for this mix while on the inaugural SEED (상록수 Education and Exposure Delegation) trip, in Seoul, Korea, this year, where I traveled for 20 days with 6 other queer korean cascadians. The trip was transformative, not only in my own relationship to the political and social history and present of the Korean peninsula, but also in my understanding of what it means to be a Korean person, whether in the diaspora or not. I'm not very skilled at DJing (yet), but I knew that I could only express some of the experiences I had through the medium of mixtape. So, this mix is a sonic representation of what it felt like to hold awe, excitement, joy, and 정, at the same time as deep grief, rage, and 한, and it's dedicated to Noory Kim.
