Ten years ago, Mike Filipowitsch stepped out of the Burt Neilson Band tour van for what he thought might be the last time. Having toured Canada and the US at least 20 times over the span of 10 years, he just needed a break.

This break ended up taking Mike all over the northern parts of Canada, working and teaching in remote fly-in communities. Throughout these adventures, he kept his guitar close, and his songwriting pen active.

In 2011 he self-recorded an EP called Little Disasters and toured the country solo with it. The folk rock songs on this beautifully written album ‘reflect a maturing songwriter; hints of Keelor’s guitar and a softer version of Matt Mays’ vocals mixed tastefully make this record a hidden Canadian gem’(Meghan Scott, Tuck and Roll Productions)

Since this time, songs have continued to collect, and Mike has had the opportunity to play in Japan and China, and Taiwan, spreading the gospel of the Canadian North’s desolate, beautiful and intriguing landscapes and people.

Mike continues working on his next record titles “We know the darkness as well as the light”, with former band-mate and friend Jeff Heisholt (BNB, The Trews, Terra Lightfoot). 20 years in, and we believe that it is just getting started.
