I grew up in Glebe, Sydney... the kind of neighbourhood where music shows up whether you’re looking for it or not. One night in high school, a bunch of mates brought vinyls to a party at my place. They took over the decks and wouldn’t let me near them. Being sidelined in my own living room lit a fuse. I wasn’t heartbroken... I was fired up. I hated feeling powerless, so I made a decision on the spot: I’d learn the craft myself, get better than anyone in that room, and never wait for permission again.

That moment pretty much forged GROJ. What started as stubborn determination turned into a life in electronic music... from bedroom experiments to releases on Afterlife, Fryhide, Traum, and performances at HI Ibiza, OFF Sonar, ADE, MUTEK, and more. I’ve carved out a lane that blends emotional chill-house, breathy indie-dance vocals, and melodic production shaped by years of live sets and storytelling. 

I’ve got French roots too... also grew up between the south of France and Grenoble before landing in Montreal as a young man, and now I’m based in Los Angeles, running this strange but perfect Artist-Scientist life. Leftfield have been at the cutting edge of dance music since the 1990s, releasing albums that have become some of the most influential electronic records of all time around the world with their debut LP Leftism being widely regarded as one of the most boundary-pushing electronic LPs ever released.

Originally comprised of Neil Barnes and Paul Daley, in 2010 Barnes reignited the Leftfield name, and went on to release an acclaimed new album (Alternative Light Source) touring the world with the full live band, with a string of sold out shows.

Neil has also been cementing his reputation as a top-tier DJ and record collector unleashing modern dance floor weapons, selling out clubs / venues, headlining festivals and creating some amazing nights with his sets. Leftfield is a name synonymous with quality and Leftfield DJ Sets are exactly that, allowing Neil the chance to show the depth of his musical knowledge and select the best tracks to take you on a journey.
