About ona:v! 

A scientist by day and a DJ by night, Polish-born and Edinburgh-based ona:v began DJing in Edinburgh clubs in 2019. With distinctive taste for fast-paced and energetic tracks, she packs her DJ mixes with high-energy electro and techno. With the current techno scene being out of underground and subject to market forces, she finds gems amongst old and less known tracks and artists to create her own sound. 
She is an advocate for female representation in the electronic music industry and believes the best way to increase the proportion of women in the electronic music world is platforming – and so, her mixes and sets always feature amazing tracks by amazing female producers! 
To further promote women DJs, together with another Scottish DJ, KT.K, ona:v founded an all-female electro/techno DJ collective EPiKA. The aim of EPiKA is to promote women playing heavier flavours of electronic music through organising a series of female-led nights in Edinburgh and to create a welcoming and supportive environment for beginner female DJs. EPiKA’s launch night was scheduled for April 2020 and cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, but plans are under way for 2021. ona:v also uses one of her radio residencies to promote female DJs by inviting female and non-binary DJs to record mixes for her monthly show on Edinburgh’s EH-FM community radio (CiRCLE by ona:v). To make the clubbing world more welcoming, she also runs a meetup page, where strangers can meet and join her and her friends for electronic nights out.  

Despite the pandemic closing clubs (in Scotland, clubs have not opened since March 2020), 2020 was busy for ona:v. In February, she played at the launch of electro-only night by the Scottish electro collective SLR. After clubs closed, she has participated in numerous streams and recorded a number of quality mixes for podcasts and radio shows, for example for Scottish labels Animal Farm and Hilltown Disco. She has also become a part of the Sisu roster and secured two radio residencies (the already mentioned EH-FM residency as CiRCLE, and Fnoob Techno Radio residency as ReView). In 2021, she delved into the world of music production. Recorded from the very beautiful and snowy Lekwungen Territory, My NYE show is a tiny snippet of some of my favourite tracks released in 2021, of which there was an immense list to choose from. Thank you to all the artists and labels continuing to push through challenging times, and creating such a safe and distracting space from reality. Hope you all enjoy the speedy bleeps.

MACHINE GIRL CLUE WEAR MIX

We're all on the dance floor. All we've been thinking for hours is elation and briefly "track ID?" That doesn't matter though. You look up as light peeks through bushes, birds chirp and music continues to play, a stark contrast to an otherwise still and placid morning. Echoing this contrast, dancers move with intention that is simultaneously languid and energised. They've been going for a while but show no signs of stopping. Maybe its something in the air, maybe its that friend who retrieved a tray of long blacks or maybe its something a little more funky. Regardless @cruelnoon are at the helm of this particular vibe on Shell Tape 29.

Side winding through left-field techno, twisted disco permutations, pop with a hardcore rave edge and braindance bass music, the Perth production duo's joyful romp covers all corners of the dance music map - both sonically and geographical. 

Blends and arrangements that on paper seem like a high speed u-turn are executed with steeze and flair, keeping listeners and dancers hanging out for the next eclectic selection that's sure to breathe new life into whatever setting you're in. This one isn't for the heads - it's one for all the dancers and impossible to not enjoy. Keep your ears open and eyes on the prize, endless rewards await.
